Re: [Elecraft] KX2 on commercial airplane
Bill I haven’t had any problems with having my KX2 in my carry on bag, even with mic and headset along with other interconnecting wires. On my last trip I got flagged because of all the gear. While explaining to the TSA agent about ham radio I actually powered up the KX2 and showed him how it worked, he thought it was pretty neat. By the way it wasn’t the KX2 they wanted to checkout it was something else. Re: [Elecraft] IndeIdefinate support for K3s?
Dave you wrote: Parts are obviously still available for the modules and accessories for which they accepted last time buy orders ... they just decided not to make any more after that. Well maybe you need to re-read the post from Elecraft regarding not being able to obtain some of the parts for the modules. As has been pointed out by many manufacturers there is a worldwide parts procurement problem going on and many parts are now unobtainable which it isn’t exclusive to Elecraft. Elecraft doesn’t have the depth of resources that ICOM, Yaesu, and Kenwood who are in multiple markets and can produce maybe 10K plus board units of a product at a time. I recently repaired an FT1200 for a friend that had two self-biased transistors fail and I ordered the two different parts and increased my order to two of each. Well my package didn’t make it here so I went to reorder from Yaesu and it turns out I ordered the last ones they had in stock. The lead time for one of the parts was projected to be 24 months and I went to the worldwide market place and no one had stock with the same lead time, in other words unobtainable. The sad part of this is that this circuit is the power on circuit and this part is used in all there current rigs that I could find schematics for including my two month old FT891 mobile rig. There is no known cross reference for this device, I’ve checked with all manufacturers. Oh by the way after filing a lost mail claim my package finally moved out of the Anaheim postal facility and found its way here after 8 weeks so I got my less than 30 cents worth of parts and $6 shipping after all and my friend got his rig back. Re: [Elecraft] KX2 mic
Unfortunately Eric the Alex Mic has been discontinued for several years and there isn’t any new/old stock around only if one shows up on the used market. I’ve been looking and watching out for one for several years now and kicking myself for not buying one when they were first offered. Re: [Elecraft] Unassembled K2 Vs Assembled Marketability
I agree with both Ted and George about building is half the fun, I built several dozen K2s, K1s, and KX1s for myself and others. There is great satisfaction in completing a build to have it powered up and receive those first signals as well as making that first contact. I still enjoy using the K2 on the air, I like the sound of the receiver. Back in the late 70s early 80s I was in a discussion with them and said that soon the 100watt transceivers would be the size of the CB sets. They weren’t sure as they would sit in front of there Ts850s, Ft101s, and other such rigs at the time. Then along came the K2 and as a treat you get to assemble and align it your self, what a great opportunity to learn about the inner workings of HF transceivers. 73, Skip Davis, NC9O Sent from my iPad __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] K4 shipping info
Grant to respond to your reference to not needing another group that is true in some respect except the K4 group was probably setup for field testers and Elecraft communications only. Being a field tester for the K2 there was a lot of post to help improve the product before it was sold to the masses. We were the ones that tried to uncover the PC board problems and other such things that were initially found. Plus when you design a product you need someone else to evaluate it and use it in ways that don’t follow the design operational flow diagram you intended. Opening it up to all that are interested would clutter it with way too much unproductive chatter. Case in point is the number of posts generated when ever the K4 is mentioned.
