Re: [Elecraft] 2m internal transverter PTT out

2020-10-20 Thread Terry Price
Raj,

There are two ways to deal with this.

First you can use DIGOUT1 to key an external relay which controls where the
common PTT goes, either to an HF amp or a 2m amp. In the menu, set DIGOUT1
to on for 2m only. A small, low current 12v relay connected between 12VDC
and pin 11 on the 15pin HD connector on the back. Let the common of the
relay go to the PTT jack, NC to your HF amp and NO to your 2m amp.

Second is DIGOUT0 which when KIO3 is set to TRN or HF-TRN goes low when you
select a transverter band (anything about 6m). This could also key a small
12v relay to steer PTT the proper direction. As above.

Hope this helps.

[Elecraft] K3 - TX gate issue

2009-07-12 Thread Terry Price

Has anyone else noticed some distortion using the tx gate option? I heard it
on a friends' K3 and tested it on mine, while listening on headphones and
the monitor on, after each word or syllable, I hear some distortion or
crackling noise. It seems to be when the setting is at 13 or above. I've
heard it on 3 different K3's of different vintages but all running 3.19.

Re: [Elecraft] K144xv for K3 and noise figure

2009-07-02 Thread Terry Price
I believe with some of the newer firmware, 3.03 and later, the K3 will cover
above 30 MHz which would allow a standard XV144 to cover the full 4 Mhz.
just as the k144xv will. Not sure how much IF rolloff there is but for FM,
I'm sure it's better than any FM only rig!

Guys,

Keep in mind that the XV144 stand-alone transverter only covers the bottom
2MHz (144-146) of the band and would be great for weak signal work with
either the K2 or K3 because of its low noise figure higher power whereas the
internal K144XV for the K3 covers the entire 144-148 MHz band but with lower
power and somewhat worse noise figure.

Make your choices according to your needs.

As with other things in life, there are always trade-offs! :^)

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3 few questions

To add to this, I have a KDVR3 and it sounds better than a PC or any DVR
I've used in the past.

 Some questions about KDVR3:

-Is this board in between dsp and ad/da converters so that it records
 the dsp stream directly?

Yes.

-Is soundquality/samplebitrate equal to the K3 itself without any loss?

It uses 16-bit samples. The DSP in the K3 is floating point.

-How many RX soundfiles can it store?

One continuous 90-second loop.

It also stores 8 messages of up to 15 seconds each.

-Can it auto-record controlled by squelch (as a dx/call guard)?

Not at present.

[Elecraft] New K3 is born!!

After only 3 hrs of labor, K3/100 #2783 passed all tests and tx calibration
is complete. Made two quick contacts on 80m and it works great! It looks
nice next to its' older brother #965.

Re: [Elecraft] Bose noise canceling headphones

2009-03-19 Thread Terry Price
I have both the Bose and the Heil noise cancelling headsets, hands down the
Bose is better. I don't like the big dongle on the Heils, I just wish the
Bose had the boom mic on them I've had no RFI with the Bose but have had
with the Heil. The Bose is more comfortable but very $$$

If you program an offset in CONFIG:XV1-9, it applies to whatever VFO you are
using.

I need to put in an offset for 1296EME into the transmitted signal.
My question is, I am using VFO B in a split frequency, ie transmitting on B
and receiving on A.
Can I put the offset into VFO B or does the transverter offset only apply to
VFO A. I feel the manual is not
clear on this point.

[Elecraft] KRX3 Question

2009-01-04 Thread Terry Price
Hi all and Happy 2009.

I want to add a KRX3 to my K3 but I have a question that maybe someone who
has a KRX3 installed can answer.

I want to use my K3 to drive transverters, all with 28MHz IF's. If I set
transverter band 1 to be 2m low power using the transverter ports and
transverter band 2 to be 70cm using high power (100mw) ANT A, theoritically,
the rig is on the same band for both transverter bands. Ignoring the PTT
switching and tx IF switching issues, can main the main receiver listen to
2m while the sub receiver monitor 70cm???

Thanks!!

RE: [Elecraft] Transport Case for K3?

2008-12-14 Thread Terry Price
Go to ebay and look for Pelican cases, either 1500 or 1600 series depending
on how much support gear goes with the rig. ND3F used my K3 in C6 with
keyer, cables, power supply all in a 1600 case and it would take the plane
running OVER the case to damage the radio. Plus, the cases are waterproof to
something like 25 feet and have a lifetime warranty.

Ditto the remarks on the cases Rose Kopp makes (elecraftcov...@rfwave.net).
I used one on the trip to C6 for CQWW but put it in my carryon. I've
travelled for years with the K2 (and took it too this year) by just wrapping
it with a largish piece of soft foam and then packing it in the checked
suitcase. Using Rose's case with some foam around the K3 would be OK in my
view for checked luggage.

I'm looking for recommendations for a small padded case for a K3, which
could in turn be placed into checked luggage. I'd like something not much
larger than the radio itself, with space for the radio alone.

What have others found that will protect a K3 during transportation?
