Re: [Elecraft] KXPA100 Shipping Status
There have several of us that have reported receipts of KXPA100s on the yahoo KX3 web site. Mine was shipped on Nov 25, serial number 0043 to go with my KX3 serial number 0143. it was an assembled unit with ATU. I have enjoyed using it while restricted in ability to move much because of foot surgery on Nov 26. I will report more as I get a chance to move to my shack and set things up properly. But, it was easy to connect to the KX3 to operate from a reclined Lazy Boy thru a 50 foot cable to the antenna connection in the "shack." Everything could be controlled from the KX3 controls. The XYL thinks (knows?) that I am crazy but was able to do most of the leg work to allow me to put both units on an end table with the power supply under the end table and laptop on my lap. The supplied optional cable set provided all of the cables I needed to get on the air almost immediately. (The laptop was needed so that I could update the firmware in the KX3, among other things.) 73 Stan WS5K __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] OT Lithium batteries
There have been several questions about lithium batteries and their use as a substitute for lead-acid batteries. The discussion caused me to question my understanding of the definition of a lithium battery. The FAA uses the term to cover both lithium metal batteries that are not rechargeable and lithium ion batteries that are rechargeable. Wikipedia is neither definitive or even self consistent. It uses lithium battery largely as meaning lithium metal batteries, but inside the discussion of lithium ion batteries it refers to such batteries as lithium batteries. In the Wikipedia case they seem to use the context of the discussion as being important in the understanding of the use of the term. My conclusion is that when the discussion pertains to the use of lithium batteries as a substitute for rechargeable lead acid batteries then it is more likely that the question pertains to the rechargeable version of the lithium batteries, i.e. to what is often referred to as lithium ion batteries when the context does not provide the likely meaning. For KX3 owners in particular there have been extensive discussions on the best type of rechargeable batteries depending on their application: backpacking, beach portable, picnic tables accessible by car, etc. A search of this site, the yahoo group for the KX3 or other sites for portable hf operation will give a wide range of options along with their pros and cons. Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft USB interface
Julian, Your timing was great! I took a look at KComm and it was just what I needed for a portable operation I plan to make shortly with the KX3. The 16 message capability that I can initiate with one mouse click (if needed) was the clincher. This should then give me more time to type (hunt and peck) the call signs in the log! Re: [Elecraft] cables for digital/dayton
A source for the appropriate mic jack for the KX3 would be very much appreciated. I also found only jacks with the shields set to ring two. Initially I thought that I must just be misreading the description! I received an email from Tigertronics on Sunday stating that: "We are finalizing our new KX3 cable now and should have it available about a week before field-day. We will post an update to our web site's "What's New?" page as soon as it is available. And yes, it uses a right-angle plug as recommended by Elecraft (you had asked about this earlier). Enjoy the rest of your weekend!" Re: [Elecraft] KX3 report
Wayne, Will the 2.5mm adapter cables for the KX3 be on the order page in the near future? I also would like to order a separate "KXSER (RS-232) Cable." I have requested the USB cable with the KX3, but depending on circumstances I will need to switch from one to the other.
