[Elecraft] HF Antennas for KX3 Hand-Held/Hiking/Portable?
I am looking for HF antenna options (primarily 17m + 20m) that will work for hand-held portable while hiking with my KX3. Preferable something that will connect directly to the BNC jack on the side of the radio. I'll be hiking for 6 days in Glacier National Park and looking for practical antennas to use. What are you using when you go HF hand-held? Do you drag a counterpoise as well? [Elecraft] HF Email / Messaging options?
This isn't Elecraft-specific but I do use my KX3 for this. I am looking into EMCOMM email and message store/forward systems. I am already using Winlink on HF with both the Winmor protocol and an SCS PTC Pactor modem and those are working FB. I am considering putting up an HF BBS-like system that multiple users could use to store (and possibly forward) messages between multiple users. I used to do packet on VHF/UHF 20 or so years ago but have never done HF packet, Amtor, etc. and wondered what options there are today? My goal is to build 3 or 4 HF turnkey systems using low-cost HF transceivers, modems or ?, simple portable antennas, etc. The lighter/smaller/more agile the better. Any suggestions for a simple message system using efficient protocols on HF? And, based on the success of this research, I might look into providing systems to deploy in the bush for remote missionaries, etc. Any suggestions or direction to existing systems (keeping low budgets in mind) would be appreciated. [Elecraft] Lightweight Windows Laptop/Tablet for Portable work
I'm looking for suggestions for a lightweight laptop or 2-in-1 tablet type of machine to take while hiking/backpacking portable. I also want to be able to recharge it with my solar panel/charger/12V Lithium or SLA battery. I'd love to get the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 but don't want to spend north of $1,000! What are others using for a portable Windows that will run products like HDSDR, HRD. PSK, etc.? I'd like it to be under 3 pounds if possible. [Elecraft] PX3 Future Upgrades?
I'm loving my PX3. It adds so much to the KX3 operation that I hate to be without it when I take my KX3 portable while backpacking and hiking. Wayne, Don or other Elecraft guys - can you comment on when we might see the SVGA interface upgrade and the USB keyboard supported. Also, any hope for USB mouse support for point and click frequency changes? Re: [Elecraft] [Elecraft ]K3 Problems
Many thanks to those who responded to my plea for help with my K3. I spoke to an Elecraft engineer by the the name of Howard. Howard's advice was to remove the front panel and push it back and forth to clean the pins. I took Howard's advice and now my K3 is restored to full working order:-) The serial number of my K3 is 836 and had been in daily use for a number of years without the front panel being removed - so it is likely that there was some corrosion on the pins. Maybe others will benefit from my experience and Howard's advice. 73 from Chas - M0BIN __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3 Problems
Hi Gary, I was using text decode on transmit when suddenly very few of the buttons on the front panel of the K3 would perform their normal function. Some produced no response ie - MENU and CONFIG do not work at all, SUB does not work at all. Many buttons produce a response which is completely different from their intended function. The K3 is totally unusable. I tried to install the latest firmware and got the following on the K3 screen: E O2OCOC ERR DSE Firmware failed to load I now have a very expensive piece of equipment that is totally unusable. I have the KAT500 on order but I am wondering if I should cancel that order as I will not be able to use it. Can you please advise me of a way forward? 73 from Charles Rodgers - M0BIN __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] (no subject)
Apparently you want all your questions answered without first asking them. How can your Elecraft product be discussed unless you first have a question? Ask it and I bet your question will get full attention. I for one appreciate, for instance, the discussion of plasma TV's and their relationship to Elecraft or any other product. It really doesn't bother me to go off topic as long as it's a beneficial discussion. Like I said, you have a technical Elecraft question, ask it. That's what begins the discussion. It does not just happen.
