[Elecraft] GPS Disciplined 10MHZ source from China
I was curious so I bought a GPS disciplined 10MHz source from China using the eBay seller "cybereveryday." I have a calibrated scope and a Rubidium 10MHz source. I noticed a frequency offset on three of the WWV frequencies when I plugged it into the K3 XREF module after getting "GPS Lock" rather than using my Rubidium lamp standard I measured the 10MHz output from the GPSDO and it is 10,000,025 Hz. (2.5 PPM) The eBay ad states "Accuracy: than above OXCO 2 order of magnitude." The point is, even using the K3 zero-beat method with 15 MHz WWV I can get closer to being dead on frequency than using this Chinese mfg. GPSDO. Again, Elecraft quality and engineering WINS. [Elecraft] K3 Sensitivity
I assembled my K3/100 with the second receiver in December of 2010. The weak signal performance was much better than my original IC-756 rig. I did not install the automatic antenna tuner. I have continued to download the software changes since then. Two years ago I installed the general coverage receiver modification. I thought it was my imagination at the time but I thought had experienced a slight decrease in the primary and secondary receiver sensitivity. Today I put my Kenwood TS-480 that I had been using as a mobile in the shack. I was listing to a couple of weak strength SSB QSOs using the K3. Out of curiosity I switched over to the TS-480 and was surprised that the weak signals were more "copy-able" on the inexpensive Kenwood than on the K3. Does this indicate a problem with the RX in the K3 or is the apparent difference in the TS-480 RF gain come at the price of the definitely poorer adjacent signal rejection? __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Apartment Antennas Magnetic loops
Take a look at the web information about construction of true Magnetic loop antennas. I have one made from 1 (1.125 OD) copper pluming pipe and 45 degree elbows and tuned with a vacuum variable cap. I use it when I am in temporary lodging during extended out-of-state contracts. It performs very well and can be camouflaged on a balcony with the plastic vines and flowers . I also have a Little Tarheal II mounted on a heavy duty stage speaker tripod with six 25' steel measuring tapes as pull-out radials. When pressed because of antenna restrictions or logistics, hams will try to load a strand os wet spaghetti! [Elecraft] K3 Notch Freq / P3 display
Is it possible for the firmware in the K3 and the P3 to be revised to have a vertical line displayed on the P3 to show where the K3 Notch Filter (auto or manual) is within the displayed spectrum? I some circumstances the auto-notch is fine, but in many instances while using the manual notch it would be nice to be able to have a visual indication on the P3 of the notch filter so aligning the notch on a specific signal would be faster.
