[Elecraft] FS: XV-432

2013-01-01 Thread k2qo
I built this transverter in 2010 for the
VHF contests and it was aligned by
Elecraft service. (The power module was
bad out of the box so they replaced the
module and performed an alignment.) It
puts out full power and works great with
my FT-817. I'm working on simplifying my
rover so this transverter must go. (I
had it for sale last year but marked it
sold as I could not part with it
them.)Manual will be included.

The top cover has three holes to allow
screwdriver access for the common
adjustments which can be tricky with
this unit. If you prefer an original top
cover I'll swap it with the one from my
XV-222 which is not for sale.

It is yours for $300 shipped via USPS to
the lower 48 with full insurance. PayPal
is preferred.

[Elecraft] XV222 RX is Dead, Need Advice

2020-09-17 Thread k2qo
During the recent September VHF contest I could only hear the absolute
strongest local stations on the XV222/K3 in my rover. It worked FB in June.
My XV432 worked just OK as usual. Stations told me I was the loudest signal
on the 222 band so the TX side is fine.

I put it on the bench and connected my Elecraft N-Gen. When turned on I
could barely detect an increase in noise. Tried the same on my XV432 and it
went from S0/1 to a solid S9.

I'm guessing that I somehow blew up U1 (an ERA6) and/or Q3 (an ATF 34143). I
don't have a good scope, RF generator, or RF voltmeter but kinda think
replacing both will fix my XV. A bad relay is an option too.

Thoughts? I'd like to fix it to have for a spare as I plan on moving
non-BigE transverters for 222 and 432.

Re: [Elecraft] XV222 RX is Dead, Need Advice

2020-09-25 Thread k2qo
Don and gang,

I replaced Q3, U1 and the ADEX mixer. Results? Transmit works FB as before
and the RX still has no sensitivity. No change at all. I ran through the
setup related to the RX section and one thing stands out.

Part VIII: RX Input Alignment
Trimmer cap C1 has no effect on the AC voltage at the phone output
connector. This is the same result I had before replacing the 3 parts.

I think I may be down to signal tracing starting at the N connector. But
without a list of test points and voltages, this may be a nonproductive
PITA.

The next step is to sell this unit for parts or buy a working used XV222 so
I can backward engineer a solution.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 cabinet buzz

2021-05-29 Thread k2qo
After much searching, this 2.4 year old thread is the only info I can find on
this issue. I bought a factory built KPA500 a few months ago and mine buzzes
on CW key down. Af first I thought maybe this is normal as I never owned an
HF amp. Now I think it is a problem.

Any know how to fix this? I can shoot a short movie if that helps.

[Elecraft] K2 I/O Problem Fixed

2008-08-06 Thread Mark, K2QO
Hi Gang,

Here is the Readers Digest version of my repair. Bottom Line? The Max 1406
chip on the I/O board was toast and Don Wilhelm was instrumental in getting me
back on line.

On Friday evening of FD setup this year, my K2 (SN#543) worked FB and was
talking to the computer at the K2ZR/Buffalo Lighthouse Crew FD. On Saturday,
the op took the seat and, well, no info from the rig. H. Everything was
unplugged overnight so the thunderstorms shouldn't have had an effect. Maybe
ESD from plugging in the first antenna? Who knows.

During troubleshooting after FD, I caused a smoke release from L1 on the
daughter board which is plugged into the front panel. This caused complications
as I had no spare.

But, THANK GOD we have Don Wilhem on the job! He guided me through the whole
process with about 4 email go-arounds and SHAZAAM, a final determination that
the MAX1406 likely died. A call the the Big-E, three days for the pony express,
and about 10 minutes ago my favorite rig was moved from the workbench to the Op
table where it is supposed to be. Fixed and ready for DX.

For the past few weeks I had my FT817 (IF rig for uW work) and my FT100D (Rover
and 6M) on the Op table. They are not even in the same league as the K2. And to
think that I've been considering a new fancy Yaesu to take over for the old
K2.
