[Elecraft] ARCI QP - check top bottom of the hour!

2006-04-05 Thread mikekopacki
I'm making a slight change to my earlier post on my trip to DE for the ARCI
Spring QP.

I will check the top of each hour, for 5 minutes, on 15m, not 10m. However, I
will check 10m at the bottom of each hour.

I will call CQ QRP for 5 minutes. If the action is good, I'll stay there until
it falls off. Otherwise I'll go back to the band I was previously on.

HOW ABOUT EVERYONE DOING THE SAME?

73,
Mike

[Elecraft] DExpedition for ARCI Spring QP

2006-04-04 Thread mikekopacki
Once again I will be operating the ARCI Spring QP from the great state of
Delaware.

I will be signing as NJ2OM/3, and mostly running on or near the QRP frequencies.

During the evening hours I will check 80m at the top of each hour. I will
check 10m at the top of other hours.

If anyone needs DE on a particular band/mode, let me know. Maybe we can work
out a sched to make it happen.

Good luck to all,
Mike, NJ2OM

[Elecraft] Size of K2 phone jack?

2005-12-04 Thread mikekopacki
Anyone know the size of the phone jack in the K2? I can't find it anywhere in
the manual.

I know it's not 3/32, already wasted money on that size.

Is it 1/8, 2.5mm, 3.5mm?

Thanks!

special requests if asked :)

I will be going down on Friday, 4/8. I should be set up by 6pm or thereabouts.

I will be signing as NJ2OM/3.

Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement

Good Evening,
My fingers are itching from lack of CW work. I have been banging away
at a calculator, a spreadsheet, writing simulation software, and realizing
the results with components and solder. The results worked. Wow, from
idea to reality is quite interesting. My new radio, tuner, and bridge all
in one box. But I am still learning.
Now to get someone from Delaware or South Dakota to check in to the
Elecraft Net. I don't believe folks use amateur radios in Delaware.
Prove me wrong tomorrow evening ;)
It sounds like 40 meters is open but there are a lot of voice ops
working the band. By tomorrow evening they should be done. 20 meters was
working earlier as I was testing my new tuner and radio. I think we may
have good propagation for all those folks who are not actively feeding at
net time. But there are two nets so you can try one, or the other, or
both if that is your wont.
Please join us :
Monday z (Sunday 4pm PST) 14050 kHz
Monday 0300z (Sunday 7pm PST) 7045 kHz

Visit our web site: http://ecn.visionseer.com/ for net details. Thank you
Dan.

Happy Easter,
Kevin. KD5ONS

Next project: current balun for my OCF dipole.

Re: [Elecraft] suggestions for EQP practice

2005-03-11 Thread mikekopacki
David, I replied to this once but didn't see it show up so if it shows up
twice, I apologize.

I would disagree with you on your suggestion.

One of the things that makes contesting a little easier (sometimes) is that the
exchanges are publishes, so you know what to expect next.

How many times has someone in a contest sent the exchange out of order, and
that's the way you copied it into your logger, then you had to go back and
retype the affected fields to get it right? And if you're really cooking in a
run, sometimes you might not even realize it until you [Enter] and get some
message about the info you entered was incorrect.

Since the exchange has been published, most people are going to be expecting
the letter K as the first character in the rig portion of the exchange for
most of their qso's. Changing that to a 2 followed by a slash, etc etc is
just going to add confusion.

Having to resend the exchange just one time is going to offset a lot of the
time saved by not sending a K.

And that's not even considering the folks who may not be on this reflector and
never seeing your post.

Having said all that, hope to see you on the air. K

72,
Mike, NJ2OM

Subject: [Elecraft] suggestions for EQP practice

May I suggest that we try to make the EQP contest unique among current
contests by attempting to give actual (meaningful) signal reports.
Because of the association of this content with QRP, the wholesale use
of 5nn seems really quite out of place. It will also be good practice
to those who haven't fully come to grips with the proper use of RST
reports to learn to make snap judgments about a proper report. Those
snap judgments are usually pretty good, often better than ones that get
 deeper consideration.

And if you are looking to find a way to make up for the little bit of
time it takes to give an honest report, consider adopting, in place of
 sending K2 nr 4321 or K1 nr 548 simply 2/4321 or 1/548.

Looking forward to getting some new s/n's, (there aren't any more
 states)

[Elecraft] 8R - 8T lines

2005-02-09 Thread mikekopacki
I'm trying to understand exactly (well, more or less) what the 8R/8T settings
do.

In the primary menu, under T-R, you set it as either '8r hold' or '8r nor'.

The manual says to user the 'hold' option for all modes of operation. It also
says that it ...holds the 8R line low during the user programmed QSK delay.

Does this imply that if I choose the 'nor' option, and have the T-R delay time
set to a longer period (say, 1 second), that the 8R line will not be held low
during the entire 1 second delay? And if not, what is the result?

Can anyone help me understand this?

Thanks,
Mike, NJ2OM

[Elecraft] Popping noise in audio

2005-02-07 Thread mikekopacki
Just used my newly completed K2 for my first contest - FYBO.

There was only one thing that was not 100%. I found that, on 40m and below,
with or without a headset, there was a popping kind of sound in the audio
when transmitting WITH THE PREAMP ON.

It was not detectable with the Preamp OFF, or on 20m, 15m or 10m with the
Preamp ON.

Filter settings were 500 Hz for FL1 and AF1 in all tests.

I did not hear it in SSB mode.

Any ideas? Thanks from
Mike, NJ2OM

[Elecraft] K2/handmic/headset (new K2 buyer)

2004-12-13 Thread mikekopacki
I'm going to order a K2, and I want to get the right handmic. I have a Heil
Proset headset now, with the Icom element. I would like to use this headset
with the K2, as well as my Icom rig.

Does this mean that I need to buy an Icom handmic for use with the K2, or can I
get the K2 mic and wire it so that I can use the Heil headset that I already
have?
