Re: [Elecraft] SKCC K3Y event

2020-01-05 Thread NZ0T
I've been having a lot of fun with the K3Y event using my K3 at 100 watts.
Have kicked in the KPA500 a few times when I have to. Currently at 15 K3Y
areas confirmed with 47 of the total 91 slots.

Re: [Elecraft] Logging Programs

2016-02-28 Thread NZ0T
CQRLOG is a very good general logging program for Linux and there is now a
version that works well on the Raspberry Pi B 2:

https://www.cqrlog.com/node/1455

I used it with an RPI2 running Linux Mate and it worked very well. The only
reason I switched back to a desktop machine is that WINE does not work on
the PI and I use it to run the W2 wattmeter software which is not available
in Linux.

[Elecraft] Speaker question

2016-01-20 Thread NZ0T
I have used two speakers with my K3 for several years. Lately I have noticed
that when the headphones are plugged in the left speaker stays on even
though I have speakers set to off in the menu. This has not happened
before. I use a 1/8 stereo plug in the rear speaker jack. Everything works
normally except for the left speaker staying on when it shouldn't. I have 2
speakers set in the menu and am using firmware 5.38.

Ideas?

[Elecraft] K1 AGC mod

2015-02-01 Thread NZ0T
I just built K1 SN 3353 and it's a neat little rig. I usually wear headphone
so now that I've experienced the AGC lag I would like to do something about
it. I know it's audio derived so it will never sound like a K2 or K3 but
if I could reduce the loud spike at the start of a received transmission it
would help. From perusing the net it looks to me like the most common mod
involves replacing C31 on the RF board with a 1uf and C67 on the same board
with a .22uf. Is this the best mod or are there others that I should look
at?

Re: [Elecraft] Got the W2 interface and utility working on Linux

2014-08-22 Thread NZ0T
Tom,

The issue was that I had the W2 interface running fine in Wine but could not
get it to connect to my computer. Several people responded here and were
very helpful but it was Martin DM4IM who sent me this which was easy to
read, understand and accomplish:

Hello Bill,
try this:
Linux handles serial devices different from windows.
Your usb-serial adaptor probably will be recogniced as /dev/ttyUSB0,
while your Windows-Software running under wine only can handle COMx.

So you need to tell wine what device it should use for serial
communications.

You can do this by linking the linux-device to the windows device.
Open a console and type:

ls /dev/ttyUSB*
You should see a reply like this:

/dev/ttyUSBx

where x is probably 0 (zero).

Now, assuming the x was 0 (zero), type (case-sensitive!) or simply copy and
paste:

ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com1

If you type correct, this will put a file named com1 in
/home/yourusername/.wine/dosdevices

where /.wine is a hidden directory. Check if the file is there by typing

ls ~/.wine/dosdevices

Amongst a number of drive-letters, you should find a file named com1

(This step might or might not be neccessary:
(Then log out and back in. If you don't know how to log out/in, simply
(reboot.

Now run your application under wine. Advise it to use com1.

I expect this to work, but if it doesn't , you probably need to set some
permissions. I can help.

[Elecraft] Need help with FTDI USB connection for W2 interface program in Linux

2014-08-19 Thread NZ0T
I am part of the team that will be displaying Elecraft products at the
Joplin, MO hamfest this coming weekend. Taking my K3 and W2 to show and I
would like to be able to show the W2 interface program on my Acer netbook as
that program really enhances the W2. The problem is that I recently changed
from Win7 to the Linux distro Zorin OS9 (based on Ubuntu) on the netbook
and the interface software is only available for Windows and Mac. I have
been able to get the Windows version of the program running using Wine but
have had no luck getting the FTDI USB cable to connect. I am new to Linux
and really struggling with this. Can anyone please give me a simple
(hopefully) step by step procedure on how to get the cable recognized and
working under Wine?

Thanks in advance!

[Elecraft] New Linux user - USB questions

2014-08-12 Thread NZ0T
I am trying to learn about Linux using the Zorin OS 9 version of Ubuntu. My
goal is to replace Win7 on my old desktop I use in the shack but I need to
make sure that everything works. I have Zorin working great on my Acer
netbook which is my test bed for Linux. I have managed to get an older
version of ACLog working with Wine so objective 1 is satisfied. I have the
W2 software working under Wine and I have the W2 and K3 utility versions
downloaded and installed. But now I'm hitting a wall getting the FTDI USB
cable to work for the W2 and the serial to USB Prolific adapter to work for
the K3. Can anyone help me with a (hopefully) simple step by step procedure
that will get these USB connections working? Until I can get the K3 and W2
talking to Linux I don't want to make the big change on the old gateway.

[Elecraft] K3 strange power surging behavior

2014-07-07 Thread NZ0T
My K3 SN 1502 with MCU 4.83 is exhibiting a strange surge in transmit power
level. When the rig is keyed in CW with the power set all the way up power
output surges from a high of around 140 (!) watts down to 60 watts and back
in a rapid fashion. It is at it's worst on 30 meters shows at least a high
power spike on all bands except 160 and 80 before it settles down to around
100 watts. If I turn the power down the cycling is much less severe but
there is still a leading spike of around 140 watts. I have tried reloading
the firmware with no luck. I have checked all my jumpers and connections
and they are fine and the rig does this even straight into a dummy load. My
power supply is an Astron RS-35M in great shape.

I should mention that we suffered a lightning strike last Labor Day weekend
that took out my Ten Tec tuner, W2 wattmeter and a few other things but the
K3 was not affected at all and I hope this problem is not some delayed thing
from that strike!

An ideas? The rig is almost six years old - maybe I need to open it up and
make sure screws are all tight?

[Elecraft] K3 FP getting warm.

2014-02-23 Thread NZ0T
I noticed today that the front panel of my K3/100 SN 1502 with the newer DSP
board seems much warmer to the touch than before. With the rig on and
having not transmitted for over an hour the PA temp is 30C while the FP temp
is 34C. Room temp is 22.7C. I have never seen this before. The rig is
working fine as far as I can tell. I recently loaded the latest Beta
firmware 4.83 but otherwise have made no changes.Have I just not noticed
in the over five and a half years I've owned the rig or should I worry about
this?
Or am I just getting old and can't remember? :)

Re: [Elecraft] Power Supplies for K3

2013-06-13 Thread NZ0T
I currently use an Astron RS-35M in my home shack. Yes it's big and hot but
it works well, puts out no RF hash and is easy to repair if something goes
wrong with it. I also have an MFJ-4125 switcher for backup that I've had
for years and it works great with no RF hash. It does have a noisy fan but
there are mods to fix that. I almost always wear headphones so the fan has
never bothered me. I tried a JetStream switcher from CheapHam last year but
it put S9+ out all over the HF bands so back it went! I also have a Pyramid
35 amp linear supply I use at our lake cabin but it has needed repair
several times so I would advise staying away from that brand.

Call or email Kenwood customer service. I'm sure they will reply right away

  Sorry, just couldn't resist.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Auto Notch distortion

2013-03-12 Thread NZ0T
I love my K3. It's the best rig I've ever used, let alone owned. But the
auto notch is a weak point. Yes, it does find and eliminate carriers but it
introduces significant distortion. The manual notch is superb and does not
introduce any distortion so that's what I use. What is perplexing to me is
that the Icom IC-7200 I recently acquired as a back up rig has an auto notch
that works very well while introducing little to no distortion. The 7200 is
a nice entry level rig but no where near a match for the K3 except for the
auto notch. I'll just keep hoping for an auto notch fix.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 EZ

2013-03-06 Thread NZ0T
A request - I use a 10 netbook at my station and K3 EZ in it's current
form is too large for the small display so I can't use it. The bottom of
the page is cut off. I have tried re-sizing my display with no luck so if
you are going to produce an improved version IMHO it would be great if it
would be compatible with small displays.

Re: [Elecraft] The Old Days

2013-01-29 Thread NZ0T

The conclusion here may well be part of it. A coworker who worked in
avionics in a former life told me that the use of AM for aircraft
communications is indeed for the ease of tuning but also because a
weaker station can be heard under a stronger one unlike with FM and its
capture effect (likely true for digital). AM allows an air controller
or other aircraft to hear an emergency call when another station is
transmitting. Based on my experience, I have no reason to doubt his
conclusion.

73, de Nate, N0NB

Nate, that is exactly the reason AM is still used for aviation.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 Interface Question

2012-12-30 Thread NZ0T
Well, dammit, the W2 window has reverted to being stuck in the upper left
hand corner of my Acer Aspire One again! I have tried everything I can
think of in the display portion of control panel even going to no desktop
(solid blue) and also trying the Windows XP theme which worked yesterday.
Obviously this is an issue with XP and or the small Acer (10.1) netbook
screen and not the W2 problem. Whatever I did yesterday worked for a time
but trying that again today is not working. So any help from someone who
understands XP and the Acer better than me is greatly appreciated!

[Elecraft] W2 Interface Question

2012-12-29 Thread NZ0T
When I run the W2 interface the display is stuck in the upper left hand
corner of my Acer Netbook's display. Right clicking and trying to move does
not work. I have tried deleting the program and the W2 utility and
re-loading both with no luck. The display has not always been stuck this
way as I could move it about. I have not changed any settings on the Acer
that I can recall. The netbook is an Acer Aspire One D255 running XP. I'm
using Firefox if that makes any difference.

Any ideas?

Re: [Elecraft] I thought Elecraft was a household name!

2012-07-15 Thread NZ0T
Last winter I was in a group on 160 phone away from the frequency I'm
normally on. The group, which was made up of old timers, included a couple
of guys who had new TS-590s. When I explained that I was running the
Elecraft K3 they had no idea what it was even after I explained that the 590
was generally considered to be a copy of the K3.

But that's OK as Elecraft is doing very in a bad economy and I selfishly
would rather have them spend money on product development and improvement
rather than on advertising to the general ham population.

Re: [Elecraft] A Success Story

2012-04-27 Thread NZ0T
Yes, Elecraft products are tops but in my mind the case study would be about
the excellent customer service that Elecraft provides. I have dealt with
very few organizations that have been as responsive and helpful as Elecraft
and IMHO that ability to respond to customers is just as important as the
products themselves. One of my first bosses many years ago always said that
every company makes mistakes - it's how they respond to those mistakes that
makes all the difference.

Elecraft makes very few mistakes in the first place but when they do the
response is cheerful, immediate and always helpful. I don't know if it's
the highly decentralized (but highly communicative via the internet)
organization or just a top-down attitude but I think many organizations
could learn a lot by studying Elecraft.

Re: [Elecraft] Tuner Opinions Needed

The KAT3 is an excellent internal tuner and if you don't plan on ever having
an amp why not get one? If not there are a lot of good tuners out there. I
would look for an L network tuner as they are more efficient and more broad
banded than the differential T units out there. For high power work I have
an old Ten Tec 229 which is and L network unit and works really well.

I would prefer the Notches to be inside the AGC loop as this does not
desense the received signal when a strong signal is being notched. IS it
too late to change the Notch to operate within the AGC circuit?

Also, noticed that there possibly could be some
TX audio impact with 4.47, making the audio rougher than normal... This
might be due to the solar storms lately, so will need to do some more
 testing. Anyone else notice this?

Loss of AGC operation whicle using HRD has been improved quite a bit with
 4.47.,

I am back to MCU 4.39 to see if the TX audio improves, or if it just is
being affected by the solar storms.

[Elecraft] K3 Auto Notch distortion

2012-01-26 Thread NZ0T
After a firmware update quite a while ago (I don't remember which one but it
was more than a year ago) I have had bad distortion using the Auto Notch on
SSB. I have heard others say the same - is there anything that can be done
about this? Mine is bad enough to make the Auto Notch unusable and I use
the manual notch instead. I'm primarily a CW op but my SSB use is for local
nets on 75 meters and with a group every night on 160 phone and those are
bands that Auto Notch would be very handy to have!

So I am suspicious of my florescent lights in the garage although they are

something intermittent with those lights. But, then again, the something
loose in the mic cord maybe be the cause too. But, I jiggled that cord
and connection and so on quite vigorously before when I had the hum and it
did not change the hum status. Then, when the hum disappeared, I did those
jiggle the cord and connector on the mic tests again and the hum DID NOT

Wow, I can't believe I have spent the entire morning fooling around with

  -Original Message-
  Ron,

OK, now it appears I was mistaken when I said that that the hum was in
 both
mics. I think I flubbed something up in my previous test due to the way
that the macros are assigned to keys which led me to thinking that the
 hum
occurred in both mics. But, I learned something in this...

One, don't try to use one of your macro assigned keys (in my case M2 and
 M1)
while in the menu because that merely reassigns the key to the new menu
entry. I made this mistake several times this morning. But, when I
discovered it and then reset my macro definitions, I rediscovered that
 the
HUM occurs in the front panel MH2 hand held mic only. I did this test
several times to make sure I was not confusing things.

I discovered something else that I did not know before. PTT is actuated
 by
any of the methods of PTT. So, when I thought I had the headphones
 CM500
mic enabled I used my foot switch for push to talk and since that worked
 for
some dumb reason I was thinking I had successfully switched from front
 panel
to rear panel. But, I had not. I also discovered that I could use the
 hand
mic (front panel) PTT switch even though my rear panel mic was being
 used.
Now, after I discovered this, I realize that it is obvious but something
  that lead to my confusion.

So, the problem occurs on the FRONT PANEL mic only and not the rear
 panel.
And, the problem occurs when the K3 is in TOTAL isolation from all AC
sources except for possibly me. I mean, I am holding the mic but then I
don't think that is a cause of the hum because I tried it with a
 insulated
hand and it still caused the hum on the front panel mic.

I doubt that this is caused by wall-outlet type AC because I have erased
 all
AC for some of my tests. And, besides, this problem seemed to occur

OK, while writing that last sentence something occurred to me. Another
change I had made on Wednesday after I had my good audio reports on the
 MH2
front panel mic was that I set the configuration for the band specific
 power
levels to work with the KPA500. So, I just now went to test the mic and
change that setting around but the hum is gone.

I repeat, the hum is gone from the front panel mic. I now can't test
 the
band specific power menu setting because I have no problem.

But, I have a suspicion as to the cause now and I am going to do some
 other
  experiments.

[Elecraft] Audio problem with Beta 4.47

2012-01-09 Thread NZ0T
I had been using 4.47 for a while with no problems until this last Saturday
night on 160 SSB. The group I ragchew with noticed that my audio sounded
bad and one guy with a P3 saw that my signal was wide. After reducing
compression to zero and backing the mic gain way back it was OK. Yesterday
I deleted 4.47 and went back to 4.39. Problems solved - I went back to my
usual compression and mic gain settings and all is back to normal.

Re: [Elecraft] what microphones work best with K3?

2012-01-06 Thread NZ0T
I can verify that despite his voice made for CW that N0NB sounds good on
1.947 most every night. I got the MH2 with my K3 and always got excellent
reports with it. I now use a Radio Shack dynamic studio mic I bought for
$15 NIB on Ebay and get good reports with it too. With the range the K3
equalizer has pretty much any mic that will interface with the rig should
sound good with the correct equalization.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 blur was a no-show during ARRL 10m

2011-12-14 Thread NZ0T
I heard very pronounced echoing via long path this last weekend. I was
working European DX on 17 CW and the echo was making it hard to copy DX
stations at times. Their long path echos, in some cases, were as strong as
their direct path. My own echo was the loudest I have ever heard in my
nearly 30 years on the air. I also heard it on 10 meters but not as
pronounced. Methinks that may be the source of the mush reports?

[Elecraft] S Merter Lite 2.21 now supports the K3

If you have loaded Beta 4.39 and download W8WWW's neat S Meter Lite software

just fine.

Get S-meter lite here:

Re: [Elecraft] K3 S9 43' Vertical

2011-03-22 Thread NZ0T
I have an S9 43' vertical. You will need the unun to match 60 meters and up.
The 80M coil works well too. I ended up building the matchbox that Phil
AD5X designed. You can see his article here:

http://www.ad5x.com/images/Articles/Match160.pdf

Phil also has a nice presentation on the 43' antenna here:

http://www.ad5x.com/images/Presentations/Vertical43.pdf

It's a great antenna if matched properly. It must be matched at the base
with a remote tuner, an unun, or coil to work properly. The unun (on 60M
and up) keeps the SWR down to manageable levels that you can match with a
tuner in the shack with acceptable coax losses. The SWR gets out of hand
below 60M and must be matched at the base.

I note that it would appear that the Linux and Mac versions of the K3

updated as of January 8 but the Linux and Mac versions still languish at
Sept 2, 2010 releases. I know of at least one important bug that breaks
the macro assignments in the stable Linux K3 utility that was fixed by
a test release sent to me by the author. This fix still has not been
 released generally.

What is the issue? Is it time? Does the author need help? Is there a
reason the development project isn't open so those of us unafraid of

Count me as a bit frustrated that the utility for my chosen OS is now

Re: [Elecraft] Bad start to FD - smoked a K3!!!!

2010-06-26 Thread NZ0T

Ok guys lets get a few things straightened out here. Number one all of the
answers that were slanderous or laced with ridacule were very much uncalled
for. This was not a planned operation. It was the case of one operator
rising early on FD and getting on with power. This was not and I repeat not
going to be used in field day operations. The operator of the K3 that was
fried arose and went into an operating area completely away from the
gentleman whom was operating qro and turned on his K3 unaware of the early
morning dx hunter whom was just being a ham radio operator. We posted the
incident hoping that someone would come up with a cure that we could apply
in the field. That was all that was intended and nothing else. All here are
experienced operators and would never have intentionally done this on
purpose. It just is a very unfortunate incident that yes should have not
happened but it did so now we will try to get it fixed and go on.

We are sorry to have cause so much trouble. I suggest this thread should end
unless someone can give us a credible fix.

The owner of the k3 John H Howard being allowed to post on nz0t log in as
I do not have one.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 SWR error

2010-03-15 Thread NZ0T

It depends on band but sometimes I see 2.5 on the W2 (verified by my
analyzer and SWR meters in my Ten Tec tuner and a TS-940S) but 1.5 or so on
the K3. For the most part the K3 shows a lower SWR than any of the rest of
my meters. And, for the most part my W2 agrees cloely with my analyzer,
940, tuner and W2. An example - on 80 meters:
K3 1.4
Analyzer 1.9
Tuner 1.9
940 2.1
W2 2.1

Maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing but the 80 meter results are
pretty typical for each band with the K3 lower that the others that are all
fairly close to each other.

[Elecraft] K3 SWR error

2010-03-14 Thread NZ0T

I have K3-100 kit 1502 with the internal tuner and FW 3.76. I know there
have been many posts about the meter SWR error but I really haven't seen a
resolution posted. Before I bought my W2 I used a cheap SWR/Power meter and
I thought the error was in it. Now that I have the W2 (which appears to be
very accurate) I see that the K3 SWR indication can be very different than
my W2, Ten Tec tuner, analyzer and my other HF rigs with or without the
internal tuner in line. My concern is that if the K3 reads SWR incorrectly
that the power may not fold back and there may be a risk of damage to the
finals. Is there any procedure to correct the error? I understand that
stray capacitance can cause differences but I would really like to have a

Just like their cars. Glitz over performance and much of the populous goes

Not as much glitz but tons of performance when one needs it.

I got the MH2 with my K3 and it works fine but I then bought a NIB Radio

[Elecraft] Looking to build a better power supply from an old one

2010-01-25 Thread NZ0T

I have an old off brand linear power supply that is inop - it was a freebie.
I would like to re-build it with a modern circuit as it was regulated with a
zener and I would prefer an ic based regulator. The transformer is fine. I
would like to find a circuit board I can populate with - parts. I can build
a kit just fine but I'm lousy at breadboarding a circuit from a schematic.
Does anyone know of a place I could find something like that for a 20 amp
regulated linear supply?

Adjust the mic gain until you have 5 to 7 bars indicated on the ALC

You can use the monitor to listen on the headphones (just remember to

Re: [Elecraft] W2 Interface Software Version 1.1.1.1

 Version 1.1.1.1

 Windows: http://sight.net/W2/W2_WIN.zip

 Mac: http://sight.net/W2/W2_OSX.zip

 - Added Always on top option. When selected in SETUP, this option allows
the W2 Interface to run as a global floating window. It will stay on top
of all other application's windows regardless of which window has focus.
Requires closing and restarting the program before taking effect.

 - Added support for multiple instances. You can now control multiple W2's
by using multiple copies of the program running simultaneously, each with
it's own preferences (serial port, window positions, etc). You need to
make a copy of the executable file and rename it to whatever name you want
to use to identify the W2 it will connect to. For example, you could name
one of the executables W2 K3-HF.exe and another W2 Yaesu-VHF.exe. The
filename is used to create a unique preferences file and is also displayed
in the title bar of the Interface window. There are more elegant ways to
do this, and I may further refine it in a future release, but this was
relatively easy to implement and works FB. It should be able to handle any
number of W2's - IF you have the W2's, a fast PC with lots of RAM, lots of
disk space to hold all the .exe's, and lots of serial ports. :-)

 - Numerous internal changes and tweaks.

 Enjoy..

Re: [Elecraft] W2 Wattmeter

2010-01-02 Thread NZ0T

I'm very happy with my W2. There was an issue with an intermittent in the
sensor cable but that was quickly resolved. It seems accurate enough to me
on a subjective basis - I have no Bird to compare it to. As far as
resolution goes the computer display resolution does rely on LED's and is a
continuous bar with a switchable peak indication. This is only the 2nd
version of the diplay software and I'm sure it will continue to improve. I
have a friend that has the LP-100A and it's a really nice meter but I'm not
sure I want to pay $120 more for it.

73 Bill NZ0T

Phil amp; Debbie Salas wrote:

Those are good points about the trigger and perception of accuracy of the

 the
 Wattmeter and SWR indications.

According to the manual the W2 has an accuracy of +- 0.5dB typical
 (nothing
about worst-case). This is 10-12% accuracy. Not as good as the
PowerMaster/LP-100A/Telepost class of wattmeters that use NIST-traceable
 cal
equipment (which should get you more like 3-5% accuracy). Of course,
 those
are $100-$150 more expensive than the W2. If you use the W2 LED display,
your perceived error could be greater than the 10-12%. As an example, if
you really have 100 watts and the W2 reads it 1/2-dB low, then possibility
only the 80-watt LED would light. So this would give you a 20% reading
 error.

Maybe the ARRL will do a review sometime soon.

Re: [Elecraft] External speakers suitable for K3

2009-12-29 Thread NZ0T

I'm using an old set of Radio Shack Minimus 0.8 (40-1313) amplified speakers
I had laying around with my K3. They are black and match the K3 nicely.
Small but sound great and no hint of any RF problems at up to 500 watts. No
longer made but if you can find some they work well. Powered by 4 D cells
or external 6 volt source. They automatically turn them selves off after a
few minutes without any input and come back on when it is resumed which
helps save batteries. I power them with an old 6 volt cell phone charger
wall wart I had in the junk box.

(no apparent problems when subjected to 100W of SSB on 80 - 6m and 50W on
2m, from attic antennas directly above the shack.) They have a tone
control that very effectively eliminates any tiring high frequency hiss.
They run from a 14V supply and the power input is a regular barrel type
connector so they can easily be powered from the shack supply avoiding the
need for another wall-wart. And they only cost £7.99.

More info and pics on my blog.

 Subject: [Elecraft] W2 Utility

Maybe I missed something here, but I really had to do some serious
searching to find the W2 Utility so I could see the display on my
 (Windows
 XP)
 laptop.
I eventually found it in /software/W2, but somehow I couldn't find a link
in any of the official download windows!
I was able to recalibrate my K3 power settings much more precisely, but
much to my dismay, found the power output (100 Watt setting) dropped from
 17

Meters on up. 6M showed output around 90 watts! I don't know where the
loss is, and it doesn't matter much to me since I use an amplifier on
 all

bands. Maybe I'm expecting too much...

Re: [Elecraft] New W2 Firmware Rev 0.92 available on our ftp site!

2009-12-16 Thread NZ0T

Thanks Brian - the improvement in AUTO is very evident in my limited use so
far. Really looking forward to the software for computer display!

Brian Broggie wrote:

Hot news! The latest W2 firmware rev (0.92) is now available on our ftp
site. The easiest way to get it downloaded into your W2 is with our
Elecraft W2 Utility program, available in three flavors (PC, Mac,
Linux). Check out the Elecraft website for all the details!

This new W2 firmware version has the following cool features...

 First, a fix:

*SWR LED's FLASH RANDOMLY WHEN A SENSOR IS CONNECTED:* This turned out
to be caused by corrupted data in EEPROM. This version checks for this
and will correct it by restoring the data to default settings.

 And then some enhancements:

SENSOR CALIBRATION VALUES EXPANDED: The calibration data for the Sensors
is now saved both by Sensor type and the connector used by the Sensor.
Among other benefits, this allows you to calibrate two of the same type
 of Sensors independently.

FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN AUTO RANGE DISPLAY: We are continuing to
improve the LED display in the Auto mode. In addition to editing
algorithms, we are setting the LED and Serial Data Output modes to
default as PEP, rather than Average Power. This can be changed at any
time using the M (LED's) and N (Serial Data) commands

We hope this latest version makes the W2 an even more useful and
enjoyable wattmeter for your shack. Keep watching for the next release
and new W2 related software programs coming soon!

For example, the last LED segment illuminated will be able to show a
range of intensities (from off to fully on), allowing you to resolve
power steps with finer granularity than the panel labeling. This will
be especially useful when peaking amplifiers.

We also have PC and Mac software applications in the works that will

[Elecraft] [MM] W2 connection problem

2009-11-24 Thread NZ0T

I have no problem connecting to my W2 using the utility directly thru my
laptops port but when I try to use my virtual ports emulator (from
Eterlogic.com) I can't get it to work. It says it is sending and receiving
; but doesn't do anything else. This port emulator program works great
with my K3 allowing me to run AcLog and K3_EZ at the same time using one
port with a usb/serial adapter. The settings I have in the port emulation
program are:
Speed 9600
DTR/RTS NO
Parity no
Bits 8
Stop bits 1
Read/Interval Timeout -1

I would like to be able to run AcLOg and the W2 computer display at the same
time when it becomes available. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Go slow
- I'm computer stupid!
