[Elecraft] Microphone Hum - MH2 on K3
This is my first try troubleshooting on the mailing list. Thanks in advance for your help. My MH2 microphone (front panel) just started producing a 60Hz hum when I press the PTT. It has worked fine for 4 months (K3 #4974). The hum is on my transmitted signal. I happened to turn on VOX with FP.L selected and the hum triggered the VOX - but when I touch the shell of the connector, the radio body, or any part of the ground system the hum disappears. So it is a grounding issue. With rP.L selected and using my Yamaha headset microphone there is no hum. There is also no hum when TUNE is selected. So it appears to be related to the Front Panel microphone connection. I was using an amplifier (working A92GR) @~500W when the problem started. Suggestions? Re: [Elecraft] Microphone Hum - MH2 on K3
Follow-up to my original post. If I short PTT (pin 2) on the front panel microphone connector to either shell or ground (pin 8) the radio goes into transmit with NO hum. Similarly if I short Mic Audio (pin 1) to shell or ground with VOX enabled the radio transmits with no hum. So perhaps it is the microphone.
