[Elecraft] Use a keyboard with KX3 to send PSK and CW?
Is it possible to use a keyboard in a standalone configuration to send PSK and CW with a KX3? I am considering getting a KX3 and would really like to use it portable without bringing a PC or needing any other external devices. [Elecraft] How good is the KX3 CW decode?
I am thinking about getting a KX3 and am wondering how good the CW decode is considered to be? Currently I use an SDR rig with CW Skimmer and it works very well but I would like to have a portable rig for car camping and it would be also be handy to have one just in case of a zombie apocalypse or attack by Gojira . If anyone reading this uses a NUE-PSK with another rig how does that compare with the KX3 CW decode? Last of all how good is the KX3 CW decode in marginal conditions? Yeah, I am aware that I really should only do CW by ear but my ears are not so good and I really like using software to decode CW. [Elecraft] KPA500 no power out on 160, 30 17 meters
The amp was working OK earlier today but just now I was checking it in my dummy load and am getting no power out of the KPA500 on 160, 30 17 meters. Got 500 out on 17 earlier today for a QSO. No matter what the drive is the power out on 160, 30 17 meters displayed on my LP-100 is whatever the rig is putting out. The drive level does not seem to have any difference as far as the KPA500 is concerned on 160, 30 17 meters. All other bands 40 – 6 are working OK. The rig is a Flex-5000. I rebooted the PC, powered off the amp off and then back on several times and powered the rig down and up but it made no difference. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening? The easiest is to check the Antenna tab at the top of the main form and make sure the Switch Relay with TR section has something checked. On my rig it's TX1 (Red). For some reason, every time I power down PowerSDR I have to recheck it. With out it, your Flex won't key the linear. If that's okay, reset your database. I have had databases get corrupted and I was getting no power or low power out. You may want to go through the tabs first and write down your settings if you don't have them already. Good luck! [Elecraft] Has my KPA500 failed?
Have been using my KPA500 almost daily for two months with my Flex-5000. The last time I used it was last night (2/5) and it shut down like normal. Powered up the rig and the amp as I heard 9Y4LS on 18 and could use him on SSB. Hit OPER and then Tune on my rig. Hmm, 25 watts in and 25 watts out of the KPA?? Switched to 20 meters and hit tune again. Still 25 watts out and the band display stayed where it started which was 3.5. Powered down the rig and amp, powered both back up but still getting the same result. And there are no faults showing. Looked in the user manual but nothing there seems to apply. So as of now I am not getting any power out and it does not switch bands. Anyone have any thoughts on these issues? I shorted the line to the amp and sure enough the * shows up. Hooked the line backup to the Flex and still no *. So something has gone wonky in the Flex. Thanks for the help! [Elecraft] KPA500 was working now it’s not
Powered up my KPA500 today for the first time today and it was working ok with my Flex-5000. Got 500 watts out on 40 to a dummy load and everything seemed ok. Powered the rig and amp off then on and all of a sudden get only 35 watts out for 35 in. Does not matter what band I Put my rig on as I only get out what I put in. Don’t see any errors and the amp is in OPER. There are no faults BTW. Anyone have any thoughts as to why I no longer get any output from the amp? [Elecraft] Use of a LP filter necessary with a KPA500?
Just finished my KPA500 and was wondering if I need to use a low-pass filter on the out put? In the manual for the am p I noted there is a LP filter for each frequency band. I have a Bencher YA-1 LP filter , a nd yes I know that it cuts off at 29.7MHz. BTW the amp is going to be used with a SteppIR BigIR vertical and a Flex-5000a. [Elecraft] KPA500 switching ideas with a Flex-5000A?
I am considering getting the Elecraft KPA500 amp for use with my Flex-5000a but need some suggestions on how to wire it to my antennas. The KPA500 will work from 160 – 6M and I would like to use it with two dedicated outputs on my 5000. One is for 6 M and the other is to a SteppIR vertical on 80 – 10. The problem is that the KPA500 only has one input so I could only send one output at any one time to the KPA500. So the question is does anyone on the list have any suggestions how I can do the following? Most of the time the amp would be routed to the 80 – 10 output that goes to the SteppIR vertical. But some times it would also need to go to my stacked 6M loops. But I would like to find a switch(s) that lets me have both anternnas active all of the time with one port going to the amp and one going to the other antenna that would let me switch to the alternate antenna. at any time. Can anyone tell me what the W1 software will display other than SWR? Will it show peak power or anything else? The AOR TDF-370 is now out of production but had a binaural filter. The review in the September 2001 QST said that the CW Stereo function made a huge difference. Take a look at usascan.com/files/tdf370.html Stereo CW Reception: The built-in band pass filter has independent outputs for the left and right channels, allowing independent bandwidth settings heard through the included stereo headphones. There was also an article by Robert Sommer, N4UU in the Feb 1986 QST, page 15 on constructing a binaural filter. [Elecraft] K2/100 Vs TS-850SAT RX perfomance?
I am considering replacing my TS-850Sat with a K2/100 in the near future. There is nothing wrong with my 850, in fact I am very happy with it in general and really love the receiver performance. The area that I live in has a number of, AM, FM and TV stations within 3-10 miles and the rig exhibits very few images throughout the HF bands. BTW, my antenna is a huge loop tuned with a SGC SG-237 Smartuner. The main modes that I operate are PSK and SSB. My main reason for considering replacing the 850 is that it is becoming fairly old and I am worried that if any major boards fail that I will be unable to get it fixed in a few years. Plus the rig is loaded with almost every option available and I should get a good price for it on ebay. Another reason is that one day I would like to get into 6MT meteor scatter and I really like the way that Elecraft transverters integrate with the K2. BTW, is it easy to control an external VHF amp and a mast mounted switched preamp with a K2? So my primary question is how good of a receiver does the K2 have vs. the 850 and how well will it handle an environment with high RF levels?
