[Elecraft] KX3 build question

2012-09-01 Thread w4sec
I am in the final assembly of my Kx3, And it appears that the KXFL3 is keeping
that corner of the case from "completely closing (by just a little bit)- as in
both sides bottoming out, where the thumb screw comes in contact with the to
chassis. . With the FL3 removed, it closes completely. I have trimmed the
cutout fingers from the edge of the fl3. It does seem to close well enough, but
just not all the way. Is this a concern, or am I good to go?
Thanks and 73s,
Pete

[Elecraft] KPA500 - Full power on 6M

2010-04-22 Thread w4sec
I was looking through the archives to see if the KPA 500 will be a full
500Watts on
6 meters, or reduced power. Did anyone pick up on that?

Pete

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - CW Paddle input failure

2009-09-13 Thread w4sec
Blazing ahead, I found that RFC3 (100uh choke on the "dot" input) has opened
up. besides infant part failure, I don't know what could have caused that -
Unless it was my blazing cw speed on the last contest that was more than it
could handle ;)!! Or perhaps they designed in a LID fuse!! Anyway, I guess I
need to order me a single 100uh SMD choke.
thanks for the replies.
73s,
Pete

[Elecraft] K3 - CW Paddle input failure

2009-09-13 Thread w4sec
I turned on my K-3 #3096 today and it seems that the paddle "tip" input has
stopped working. The sleeve input works FB. I have swapped dits & dahs on the
tip/ring in the menu, and the problem stays on the tip input. Checked my
Paddle/cable - all is well there. Before I dive head first into
troubleshooting, is there any known hardware/software/illegal menu settings
that i might have missed?
Thanks,
-Pete

[Elecraft] [K3] KPA3 mounting screw

2009-06-29 Thread w4sec
Good evening,
While installing the KPA module in my freshly built K3, I noticed the inside
tooth washer on one of the mounting screws fastening the PA module to the
screen comes perilously close to a trace. It is the screw closest to a board
mounted trimmer, and the trace comes from a to-220 device. Is there something I
overlooked, or is this a non issue? I didn't see anything on a basic search of
the archives
Thanks,
Pete

Does this mean I no longer need the Dewar of liquid helium for cooling?

[Elecraft] Dayton'09

2009-05-20 Thread w4sec
Just got back from my first Dayton experience. What a blast! Enjoyed seeing the
gang from Aptos. It was also a pleasure to finally get to meet Tom(N0SS),
Don(W3FPR) and Lyle(KK7P). Talk about a top notch group. (and all around nice
guys to boot ;)). Oh yea, just got an email from UPS. Seems that there is a 21
pound white box headed to me, from somewhere in California. Wonder what it
could be?? Hmm...
