[Elecraft] K3 KDVR3 DVR memory bug

2016-02-03 Thread Rich - K1HTV
When using multiple K3 CW memories, they always chain their messages as
expected. Pressing a CW "M" button starts keying the K3. While the message is
being sent, when a second "M" button is pressed (it could be the same or a
different button), the word "CHAIN" is displayed and the second message
immediately follows as expected. This works great when calling DX. I store
"K1HTV" in the "M1" memory. If I want to drop my call multiple times, I can
press the M1 key while the previous message is being sent and get my call sign
sent as many times as desired.

One would expect the same chaining results on voice modes when using the K3's
KDVR3 Digital Voice Recorder (DVR). However this is not the case. It is NOT
possible to chain DVR messages! One must wait until the 1st message ends before
pressing the same button or a different one. If you press a memory button while
playing back the recording in a DVR memory, it can adversely affect the message
being played.

While playing back a DVR message (i.e. sending your call sign twice), if you
press a second "M" button, the first message terminates abruptly after 3
seconds or so. Some times a partial syllable burp is heard.

What would it take to correct this DVR anomaly so voice messages can be chained
in the same way as CW memory messages?

Rich - K1HTV

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3 re-transmiting received audio question

2013-10-07 Thread Cady, Fred
Hi Dale,
The TX equalization is saved in a configuration file, so you can save the
configuration you have with the TX equalization and then set a flat
equalization and save that configuration. It takes a few seconds to restore a
configuration but that's one way to change from one to another.
Cheers,

[Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3 re-transmiting received audio question

2013-10-07 Thread d...@lightstream.net
I've encountered several instances where being able to play back a
recording of a received SSB station would have been helpful to the other
op in trying to diagnose a problem (RF feedback, distortion, mic gain
level, etc...)

A review of the KDVR3 documentation indicates that when re-transmitting
previously received and recorded audio (not a message), the transmitted
audio will be modified by the current TX Equalizer and Compression
settings. For my intended usage, this would not be desirable since the
transmitted audio wouldn't accurately reflect what was received.

Is there by chance a KDVR3 option that bypasses the TX EQ and Compressor
when re-transmitting *received* audio?

[Elecraft] K3 KDVR3 question

2012-05-27 Thread a.yoshida
I have used KDVR3 for a month.
"Receive audio record and playback" is very useful for me
to confirm Logged QSO.
Only problem for me is to forget to hold AF REC button very often.

Is there any way to trigger AF REC automatically ?

Thank for any suggestion.

Correction to previous post. TAP the MENU button to access the MAIN menu.
Rotate VFO B to TX EQ. All eight EQ settings need to be set to zero.

Do you have TX DVR settings established in your Config Menu? I have found
that any settings (other than zero) entered into this menu can color
playback audio that has been recorded. Roy W4WFB

Re: [Elecraft] K3 KDVR3 Digital Voice Recorder

2011-05-09 Thread Jim McDonald
Steve,

I had the same problem, though it was intermittent. In my case, once the
radio heated up the recording would be truncated, first a little, eventually
playing only the first couple of seconds.

Elecraft swapped out the KDVR, and it's been OK since.

During the 7QP this past weekend my KDVR3 Digital Voice Recorder would upon
occasion provide no audio while the transmitter was keyed. I was using N1MM
Logger and I do not recall doing anything that might have interrupted the
KDVR3 Digital Voice Recorder such as tapping my foot switch while the
software had already keyed the transmitter or hitting any additional keys on
the keyboard. I found that the only way to get the KDVR3 Digital Voice
Recorder back to normal operation was to turn off the K3 and then of course
to turn it on again. I hope this is just some kind of cockpit error on my
part. I don't recall any such discussions in recent history so please
comment if you can...

OK, sorry I missed that in the archives.

Maybe this question is covered before as well, but here goes. When
recording with the mic to make a recording to re-TX, is EQ applied to
this? I'm trying to determine if the EQ is applied twice, or just
once. Maybe I should make the recordings with TX EQ flat at "0 0 0 0 0
0 0".

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3

2010-11-09 Thread Stewart
My view is that the RX situation is fine i.e. you want to record
what you hear. However, I think on TX it would be useful to have
the option of either:-
a) Replaying exactly what you heard - e.g. for other station audio
b) Replaying through the EQ, Compression etc - e.g. for contests

The DVR is AFTER the receiver filters (so ti records what
you hear) and BEFORE the tramsmitter filters (so your
voice sounds the same as if you were using amicrophone).
Thus Rx EQ, notch, APF, etc affect what you record, and
Tx EQ, compression, etc., affect what your transmit.

[Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3

2010-11-09 Thread Roy Morris
Re-transmitting (on-the-air) an SSB signal that has been recorded on-the-air
results in a very "pinched" audio through the DVR monitor and a slightly
pinched audio reported by those receiving the play-back. The re-transmission
is no longer the faithful reproduction it used to be.
However, the play-back in my K3 without re-transmitting is a faithful
reproduction. This occurs in both of my K3s that have the KDVR3 option. It
occurs in both firmware 4.14 and 4.18. This is NOT an RF feedback problem. It
is also there when using a 50 ohm dummy load. Does anyone else have this
problem? Roy Morris W4WFB

[Elecraft] K3: KDVR3 AF record operation

2010-10-25 Thread Stephen Prior
The main reason that I bought the KDVR3 (apart from the fact that it was a
lot cheaper hitching a ride with a P3 than buying it on its own!) was to
enable me to produce a continuously looping audio record. Then if I miss a
callsign, or something extraordinary happens, I have a record of it. The
problem is that I keep forgetting to enable it! Often when you realise that
you'd like a recording of something, the moment has been and gone.

I should like to be able to configure the operation of the KDVR3 such that
it comes on in AF REC mode by default. I have no doubt that I'm in the
minority here, but would like to see that option in the future if possible.

[Elecraft] K3 - KDVR3 multiple operator memories

2010-06-01 Thread N2TK, Tony
I use the KDVR3 with N1MM. This allows me to use N1MM F-keys to select the 4
KDVR3 memories.

I like this setup as I don't need to connect audio to the PC audio card.
This way no issues with hum pickup and adjusting audio levels. And the audio
coming from the K3 whether using the mike or KDVR3 sounds the same.

However, I would like, if possible the following be added:

- Record on the fly. It would be nice if you can record while
transmitting. This is helpful when running split. As an example, sometimes
in a contest when running split on 40M SSB you need to change your listening
frequency because someone steps on your listening frequency. Once you find a
clear frequency it would be nice if you could record and transmit at the
same time your CQ with the new listen frequency. It saves time over first
recording than transmitting.

- Also for M/M different operators may be sitting in front of the
K3. With N1MM the different operators can pre-record their audio so that
when they sit down they can select in N1MM a different operator. This way
you don't have to record again the new operator's voice. It would be nice if
the KDVR3 would allow banks of different recordings based on as an example
different operators.

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3

2009-10-20 Thread Lyle Johnson
>> i just read the instruction manual for the KDVR3,

Mic or Line audio is recorded directly to the DVR.

Rx Audio is recorded post-filtering (including Rx EQ).

DVR audio sent to the Tx is passed through the Tx filters.

DVR audio played back directly to the speaker or headphones (not to the
Tx) is not filtered (no additional Rx EQ).

Note that in the K3 the EQ is *not* a separate filter, but is used in
creating the audio bandpass filter. Thus is it not possible to record a
signal and not apply the current Rx EQ settings to the recording.

2009-10-01 Thread DM4iM
Elecrafters,
i just read the instruction manual for the KDVR3,
there is no hint how the audio is routed. Questions:

1. Is the audio from the mic routed through the tx-eq when recording?

2. Or is it routed through tx-eq when played back? (makes sense)

3. Is RX-Audio routed through rx-eq when recording? (makes no sense)

4. Is recorded rx-audio routed through tx-eq when played back? (makes no

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3 few questions

2009-05-21 Thread Geoffrey Downs
Agreed Terry. The KDVR3 is very good. Transmission of a recording of your
own voice sounds just like it's live and txing a recording of another
station is just like the original reception. Playing a recording of a
received transmission on speaker/phones is indistinguishable from live rx.

But one thing I would like to see is MON automatically switched on at a
predetermined level when txing a recording. This has been mentioned a few
times on the reflector and may already be on the firmware list. Perhaps Lyle
can confirm?

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] KDVR3 enable

2009-02-28 Thread John
To all who responded, thank you. It was a firmware issue and loading
the latest FW did the trick. I looked in the manual after the install
and assumed it would work with older FW. I do remember reading
something about the DVR and FW some time ago on the list, but it
slipped my mind. That seems to be happening more often as I grow older.

Great list, thanks!

I am finding exactly the same, Geoff, and am hoping that this problem
will be overcome in an early future firmware update. The same applies
with outgoing pre-recorded messages. It would be useful if the MON level

[Elecraft] K3 KDVR3 - Monitoring AF Play

2009-02-03 Thread Geoffrey Downs
When transmitting (via AF PLAY) recordings made off air with AF REC, I would
find it a convenience for MON to be automatically switched on at a preset
level for the duration of the replay so that I can hear when I have reached
the end of the recording I want to tx. Normally I don't have the monitor on
when txing because I find it distracting. And a press/hold on MON, turning
it up to the right level (without accidentally affecting PWR or CMP) and at
the same time pressing PTT and AF PLAY can be a walk/chew gum problem (at
least for me) when trying to do it quickly :-) Could this be done in
firmware? Apologies if someone has already asked.

Each time a station called I had to take one hand off my PC's keyboard to
stop the playback. Not really a showstopper but a bit awkward nonetheless.
I seem to remember a post stating that playback override by PTT/VOX is on
the list of "to-do" items. I hope it makes it to the top of the list soon
;-).
Anyway, I had a great time during the contest and my K3 amazes me more
everyday. This is one heck of a radio!

Thanks all at Elecraft!

2008-11-21 Thread dj7mgq

Hi Lennart,

Toby, this is according to their schedule is it not??
Lennart Michaelsson

Based on the shipping page and the order form info at elecraft.com
during the last weeks, not to mention personal mails from Wayne
several weeks ago, yes, they are more or less on schedule.

Based on what they originally, i.e. 1 1/2 years ago, hoped to do, they
are slightly behind schedule... ;-)

Is the KDVR3 voice recorder required to record CW into the memories?

No, the basic K3 includes CW message memories. Please see page 16 of the

Latest shipping status update says mid-December for this option, same for
the KRX3 module.
