[Elecraft] 8 pin Foster mic plug

2007-11-08 Thread Steve Jackson
Ken K0PP recently mentioned a need to 'convert' between an Icom wired mic and
the Kenwood style wiring used on the K3. Others have also recently been
looking for the 8 pin Foster style connector.

There's a version of that connector that is SO superior in quality and feature
that it's hard not to mention. Heil makes a Foster connector that features a
modified cable grip, designed to allow footswitch 'tap' access. Here is a link:

Once you use this connector instead of the 'regular' type Fosters, you WON'T go
back. Heck, it's practically as good as if it was an Elecraft part!

I have made several short cross-wire adapters for other mics, using one of
these, plus an in-line mating Foster (the same gender as the panel jack). This
is also available from Universal as their part # 0526 ...

I also have one with a footswitch pigtail. Just too nicely made a part to not
share.

While I'm sharing ... if you want some VERY nice grade, easy-to-work cable,
try the"Heilwire" ...

It's a bit pricey but not overly so, and you definitely get what you pay for.

I have no financial interest in Universal or Heil.
In the case of the former, these items are very obscurely placed on their
website and are otherwise hard to find, which is why I provide the direct
links. Other vendors may also sell the same stuff but I don't know of them.

For Heil products you might also look at R&L Electronics
(www.randl.com). Their descriptions can be a bit cryptic but they
seem to carry almost everything that Heil sells (to the public).
