George,

Do not be so quick to pass judgement, there are several options in the
power output path.

Remove the KAT1 - and do not forget to change the RF source jumper to
the K1 position.
After doing that, what is the power output on each band? If it is 5
watts or greater (usually 6 to 7 watts), then the K1 is working fine and
the remaining problems will be found in the KAT1 or your antenna system.

George,

You wil have to trace the problem to the failing stage. Loo in the
manual appendix for Transmit Signal Tracing and progress through those
steps to reveal the failing stage. Once the failing stage has been
identified, analysis to the component level should be possible, the K
schemtics are avalile for download.

[Elecraft] K1 trouble shooting question

2008-01-16 Thread DW Holtman

Hello,

While waiting on my K3, I decided to order and put together a K1. The whole
procedure went great. The receiver worked great and the alignment went
smooth. After I installed the transmitter parts, there is no receive. First
I'm going to check for wrong parts, cold solder joint etc. Looking at the
schematic drawings, the receive signal path goes through D10, D11 and D12
which were all installed during the transmitter parts installation section.

Does anyone have any other suggestions/ideas?

Best,
DW Holtman

Re: [Elecraft] K1 trouble shooting question

2008-01-16 Thread DW Holtman

Hello,

Found the problem, as I strongly suspected, it was a mistake on my part. On
page 42 it says to install a "100 uH choke at RFC2 and RFC5". I did not read
the complete sentence and only installed the choke at RFC2.

Thanks for the help.

RE: [Elecraft] K1 trouble shooting question

2008-01-16 Thread Strode, Carl R
What other "spare parts" do you have left after building your new K1?

My K1 (#2476) seems to be running A-OK. However, there is a bunch of stuff
leftover, including a 100K resistor - sure would like to know what that darned
resistor is for!
