Re: [Elecraft] K2 KAT100-1 question
Eddy, Run the wire - that connector on the K2 is an input only. There is a series reverse voltage protection diode in the K2 that will prevent current from flowing *out* of that connector. One use for that connector is to use two power sources with the K2. A high current power supply connected to the KPA100, and a battery-backed smaller supply (like a Smartcharger connected to the battery) connected to the base K2 coaxial jack and also to the KAT100. Should AC power fail, the battery will take over and your operation can continue although at a lower power. The changeover is automatic - if power drops on the KPA100, the base K2 will still operate. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/19/2013 12:16 PM, Eddy wrote: Finished the KAT100-1 tuner and I'm seriously impressed with this unit!! Re: [Elecraft] K2/KAT100-1
Terry, A high power version of the Elecraft T1 would do that job, but I would think the Elecraft portion of that market would be small, there are several auto-tuners for the 150 to 200 watt range already in the marketplace. Enjoy the remodeling task. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/11/2011 3:50 PM, Terry Schieler wrote: > Well, Don, I knew the brains were in the K2 but was thinking of the minimum > extra stuff necessary to make the KAT100 work like many of the other > commercial auto tuners that are not rig specific. Well, Don, I knew the brains were in the K2 but was thinking of the minimum extra stuff necessary to make the KAT100 work like many of the other commercial auto tuners that are not rig specific. I guess that would mean duplicating the K2 AUXBUS circuitry in an outboard box. I'm thinking you are saying it's not a realistic idea. OK< I'll retreat to my kitchen remodel. [Elecraft] K2/KAT100-1
I'm just wrapping up the build of the KAT100 antenna tuner (I was in need of a solder fix) and a thought occurred to me. Has anyone considered an external circuit that would allow the KAT100 to be used with HF transceivers other than the K2? The K2-KAT100 interface is a great feature and very well thought out. But the KAT100 is such a dynamic accessory that I'd love to be able to take it with me when I travel with my IC-706mkIIG and other rigs that lack internal tuners. (My IC-706 is one of my "knock around" rigs that I take places that I would rather not take the K2). I assume this circuit would require more than just a momentary-action "Tune" button in a box. Any ideas? Does anyone think this can be done? It might even increase the market for the KAT100. 73, Terry, W0FM __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K2/KAT100-1 mobile bracket
Chuck, I have never seen a mobile bracket for the K2. Use whatever works for you installation. I would be thinking Velcro for a part of the solution (although I would not attempt to hang it below the dash and rely on Velcro, the K2 would have to sit on some surface of the vehicle or the mount that is installed. 73, Don W3FPR 2Cents wrote: > Greetings to the group, > > I built K2/100 3347 a couple of years ago with the idea of using it as a > mobile rig. [Elecraft] K2/KAT100-1 mobile bracket
Greetings to the group, I built K2/100 3347 a couple of years ago with the idea of using it as a mobile rig. It performed so well in the bench trials that my venerable TS-940 wound up on eBay. The purchase of K3 2693 last month put the K2 back on track to the mobile. My question to those of you who have done this: does anybody make a bracket that fits the K2 or is it strictly a homebrew show? I also have the KAT100-1 that I would like to keep close coupled to the K2, although it can be remote mounted if necessary. Any ideas?
