Re: [Elecraft] K2:Flakey KIO2 Communication with HRD using USB Adapter
Thanks, Simon, for suggesting power to the USB adapter may be low; I had not considered that. I'm driving it off a powered hub with a 2nd adapter from the same manufacturer to the FT1000 which IS working fine at 4800 baud. I'll try using the adapter straight to the PC and see what happens. Wonder if another vendor's version would be less power sensitive than what I'm using? Right now I've pulled the older PC that has a direct RS232 out of retirement and the K2 is happy as a clam talking to HRD. So, now I've got two laptops: one on the right by the K2 and one on the left by the FT1000. Not as clean as I would like it but it works! 73 de Clark/ke4rq___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] K2:Flakey KIO2 Communication with HRD
1) Insufficient USB power to the USB <=> serial converter. 2) Maybe the driver for the USB <=> serial converter, but I strongly suspect 1). Simon Brown, HB9DRV www.ham-radio-deluxe.com - Original Message - From: Clark Macaulay I posted this on the HRD Forum with little response so I'm trying for the collective wisdom of this august group. I have two radios: a FT1000 MarkV Field and a K2. Both are connected through separate USB bridges using the Proflif chip set to my USB port on a computer runniing XP SP3. Both radios communicate fine with Logger32. Only the FT1000 seems to be working with HRD; the K2 appears to be loosing characters as the frequency drops digits and/or the mode as read by HRD changes erratcially. I've triple checked the configuration and have loaded the current drivers from the Prolific website. I have also swapped the K2 between the 4 USB bridges I have and the problem moves with the K2. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] K2:Flakey KIO2 Communication with HRD
Clark, If you can possibly operate the K2 from a real serial port, try that. One problem with USB to serial adapters is that the run best at higher speeds - the K2 can only handle 4800 baud and that may be too slow for the volume of information that is being passed between the K2 and HRD. 73, Don W3FPR Clark Macaulay wrote: > I posted this on the HRD Forum with little response so I'm trying for > the collective wisdom of this august group. > > I have two radios: a FT1000 MarkV Field and a K2. What am I missing? 73 de Clark/ke4rq___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
