Hi Elecrafters,
is it possible to extend the K3-RX down to 470 kHz by a software update
to receive the new 630m-band
here in Europe ?

Hans,
Elecraft has already stated the K3 cannot be extended to 470-KHz
operation. I use mine on 495-510 KHz but found tuning stopped at
490. I run in the TEST mode to be able to transmit on 495 at the 1mw
range. This is adequate to drive my 100w NDB transmitter (K3
replaces xtal osc.).
I am planning to build transverters to convert 10.470 to 0.470 MHz
for those that use the K3. This will use a 10-MHz OCXO precision
reference oscillator as LO. An 80m to 630m transverter model is
planned for using other ham transceivers. I am thinking of a unit
that outputs 25w which will result in 1w ERP on most antennas used
for 630m. I found a MOS-Fet PA design that looks good for 25w and
researching good preamps designs. There are some receive converters
on the market but no transverters as yet (I hear of others working on
this, though).
I am busy with testing a LP filter that accompanies the HF PA kits I
build and getting my 1296-eme station running. All while working
four days per week. But If I can somehow have a prototype built by
time of Dayton, I will show it at my flea market space (and probably
bring it to the Elecraft table to show to Wayne).
