Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel Not Working
First of all let me say thanks to all those who've contacted me with suggestions and words of encouragement. Spoke with Dale at Elecraft (nice guy). Apparently #2737 suffered the dreaded switching matrix failure and needs to be sent back for repair. I say "dreaded" simply because it affects me and apparently has not been all that common among other units. I've had two or three other hams contact me whose K3 suffered this failure in the past (identical symptoms). Dale did not seem surprised when I described the situation, so clearly Elecraft has dealt with it before. Off to Aptos tomorrow. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel Not Working
Well, I've reloaded all firmware about 6 times and even did a force firmware load, but no fix. Connected the K3 to HRD and the available HRD controls function with the K3. Consequently, I think this is a hardware failure of some sort where the front panel buttons don't work and/or are incorrectly mapped. Does not appear to be temperature related as the rig is powered off then back on hours later with same problem. What is odd is this happened out of the blue. Rig was operating just fine Saturday morning and when I returned several hours later (with rig still on) the front panel stopped working. Guess it's time to call Aptos on Monday. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel Not Working
Harry, Do you have a recent K3 configuration saved somewhere? If not, try to save the configuration using K3 Utility. Then I would suggest doing an EEINIT followed by a new firmware load and a configuration restore. Read page 65 of the K3 manual before doing an EEINIT so you will know what needs to be done if the saved configuration brings your K3 back to the same condition it is in right now. 73, Don W3FPR HarrytheHam wrote: > Guy, Thanks, but don't think that's it. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel Not Working
Guy, Thanks, but don't think that's it. I installed the new firmware several days ago and the radio worked just fine. Even this morning it was okay. I took a 3 hour break and when I returned the buttons didn't function or function correctly. I've downloaded and installed all firmware 4 times. No change. [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel Not Working
Upgraded to latest firmware the other day. All seemed to be fine. A few minutes ago I noticed the macros that I programmed into the K3 were not working. Then I noticed that if I pushed say the XMIT button the pre-amp comes one. If I push the XFIL the "no DVR" message displays. If I push AGC the "no MON" message displaysand so on. I cannot even get into the MENU or CONFIG menus. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front panel not working
Nick You can send cat commands to simulate a "press" of an encoder. See page 17 of the programming manual (SWT SWH) commands. For Shift/Lo it is SWT58 or SWH58 For WIDTH/HI it is SWT59 SWH59 73, Laurent -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/K3-Front-panel-not-working-tp4649564p4656128.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front panel not working
Yes I tried that as well laurent. Power supply removed for few minutes and than holding power switch in for 10 sec, which forces the the firmware download. Nick, Did you try removing power supply completly ? Or do a reset/reload the firmware after you remove power supply. [Elecraft] K3 Front panel not working
Good afternoon. I run my K3 on and off with TRX Manager. This is great software and works very well. Last week whilst working on 80m (500W) I had some RF feedback which locked up the PC. Quick re-start and all was working again with TRX Manager. Then I noticed that the frontpanel of the K3 did not work anymore. That is all pushbuttons did not respond, or responded a different function. The rotary controls are OK (except the pushbuttons behind them). With the PC disconnected, I tried a re-start, re-loaded the firmware, and parameter initialization (page 55 manual) but none of them restored the frontpanel operation. Again the K3 works fine when connected with TRX Manager, but fail to respond to the frontpanel controls. Has anybody have had a similar experience, and if so what should I do to restore the normal working. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks and 73, Nick PA0NCV __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
