Are you selecting the correct input for transmit audio (MENU: MIC
SEL)? Front panel (8-pin) vs. rear panel (3.5mm MIC jack) vs. LINE
IN?

MMTTY is pretty primative in this regard. It demands a serial port
dedicated ONLY to control of the radio, and a second port for PTT.

Hi Bob-

No, I had not tried that. It was at zero. I cranked it up to 25 and
still no luck. Did some searches in the nabble archives and saw that it
might need to be higher yet. So I went to 50 and now it keys the VOX.
I have line in mic gain at about 20. Thanks for the suggestion.

[Elecraft] K3 RTTY MMTTY, etc

2008-07-18 Thread Nick-WA5BDU
I'd like to figure out how to get on RTTY by noon tomorrow. I'm working
with N1MM and MMTTY at the moment, with HRD and my trusty paddle as 2nd
and 3rd back-ups.

Transmit control -

It looks like the K3 gives the option of having RTS or DTR actuate the
PTT. MMTTY seems to use both, with no choice to use just one. I tried
that method, but with serial port connected, the PTT was asserted at all
times. Tried both DTR - OFF and RTS - OFF in the setup with same
result. (First field is for PTT control and 2nd is for keyed line control.)

Second choice is VOX. I set the K3 for AFSK A, connected line out of
the PC to line in of the K3, turned VOX on, told MMTTY to transmit. No
VOX operation. Plugged phones into the line out jack of the PC and
verified -- yes, good strong RTTY tones being generated. I did try
adjusting the MIC gain, which seems to become a line-in control for this
mode. I also did go to the menu and chose Line In as the MIC input.
What's left?

I guess my third choice would be to use the serial port, have MMTTY send
ACSII data, and the K3 would do the FSK thing. But I'm not sure how I'd
get around my PTT control issues.

Receive -

Seems to be working. No RTTY on at the moment, but when there's a
signal, I see it in the waterfall.

PC / OS-

I'm using a new Vista laptop. I know MMTTY isn't guaranteed to work
with Vista, but I think it's working well enough that I should be able
at least to operate the VOX. The rig control features of HRD are
working fine.

TNX / 73-
