I keep the headset plugged into the rear mic and headphone jack. In the
menu, I set SPKR+PH to Yes. I'm using an amplified speaker system which has
it's own volume control. When using the headset, I simply turn down the
speake volume. I use a foot switch plugged into the PTT jack on the rear of
the K3.
A couple of days ago, I discovered a very cool way to mute my speakers while
using a headset. This is accomplished simply by tapping the M3 key. The
reason this works is that certain menu functions with yes/no or on/off
parameters will cycle between their yes/no or on/off states simply by
invoking them with a memory key. M1-M4 are handy because all you need do is
tap them once the memory is set.
Here's what you do:
1. Dial up the SPKR+PH item in config.
2. Now, HOLD one of the memory keys, M1-4, to memorize that menu function.
3. Now, whenever you tap the same M key, SPKR+PH will cycle between yes/no.
Your speakers will mute and unmute simply by tapping the M key.
You can do the same with th PF1/PF2 keys but the key must be held down for a
moment accomplish the same result. Enjoy.
