[Elecraft] K3 sweepstakes this weekend

2008-11-04 Thread Dick Housden, W0NTA
Hi Don,

Thank you for the SSCW contact this past weekend. I believe you were the one
who told me I had a chirp. (If not, I am sorry to have burdened you with this).

After the report, I immediately switched from my K3 to a K2 and finished the
contest. I was using N3FJP software to key the K3 as well as a paddle for
keying the K3 keyer. Can you tell me how bad the chirp was? I have had two
other reports like this during contests - even the QRP ARCI at 5 watts. It
seems it comes on after I have used the K3 for a substantial amount of time. I
contacted Elecraft support and they suggested some things to check out, but it
is very difficult to do when the radio works fine most of the time. I set it up
here with a loop from the logging program and let it run into a dummy load for
over an hour with no change. I may have to send it back to them for their
analysis.

Anyway, I finished the contest with 706 Qs in 77 sections (no ND, NL, NT) for a
score of 100K+. Sure is a fun contest. I really enjoy the K3, but the K2 is
still a very good radio for CW contests also. I made 357 Qs with the K3 and 349
with the K2.

Thanks and best regards.

This was my K3's (#1371) first SS as well and it was a joy to use - totals
for me were:

815 Q's
79 sections worked (missed NT)
128,000 points

I worked single op, low power. Really wish I would have had the sub-RX
available and installed for this contest - 15 meters was hopping as well.

The filtering really helped out during the extremely crowded band conditions
on 20 meters. Several times I had to reach for the width knob to dial the
filters way down - spent much of the contest with it set at or near 400 Hz,
a few times needed to go more narrow.

Hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

[Elecraft] K3 sweepstakes this weekend

2008-11-01 Thread Don Rasmussen
K3 #272 was on the air for it's first ARRL SS this afternoon, on 20m and what a
treat. This contest and the CQWWCW are the two contests that I dream of, even
though I never post my logs. It's just a great time to stress test the
transceiver and to get a real idea what the bands are doing since there is
always someone on the band. Don't miss the opportunity, I did some more A/B
tests and I've not had a radio in the past that was not the loser in at least
some condition. So far, K3 has always been the best, or has been able to be
dialed in to make it that way. Very nice.
