Re: [Elecraft] K3 utility and Lbuntu 12.04
Hi Adrian, The internet world is a strange and wonderful place at times, all designed to frustrate us. I simply went to the GUI in Manage Users and Groups and added it there, I've done that dozens of times, I just forgot, it must be an age thing. Still, hopefully this thread might help someone else if they have the same memory affliction I seem to be suffering at the moment :) Paul. -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-utility-and-Lbuntu-12-04-tp7557039p7557108.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

I had posted this previous before Nates post; "Paul, Sound like a permissions problem, sudo chmod 777 the device and try again. Or, join a group with permissions, eg: dialout run (example , use your ttyUSBx id) [root@fedora16desk ~]# ls -l /dev/ttyUSB0 crw-rw 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jun 4 19:49 /dev/ttyUSB0 [root@fedora16desk ~]# Above will show the group owner i.e dialout. Ha ha! Glad you have it sorted now. I learned about permissions long ago when I first started playing with Slackware in the mid '90s. As soon as you mentioned "groups" the penny dropped, I've no idea why I didn't think of that sooner, I feel a right wally now :) Thanks mate, all systems are go, now all I've got to do is to rid myself of Ubuntu 9.1 and reclaim the partition, let the fun begin. Re: [Elecraft] K3 utility and Lbuntu 12.04
When you enter "groups" at the shell prompt, what is returned? It's likely that you need to add your username to the dialout group. You will need to log out (at a minimum) and log back in after making the change. 73, de Nate, N0NB >> -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. Re: [Elecraft] K3 utility and Lbuntu 12.04
Unplug and then replug the K3 usb interface, and then run dmesg in terminal. Please tell us what it says regarding the device assigned to ftdi? Adrian . vk4tux I did have a search for this, but I found no other replies, so I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. I recently installed LBuntu 12.04 on my netbook which I use for updating the K3, previously it had 10.04 LTS and the K3 utility worked fine, but now with Lbuntu it doesn't seemed to work. The utility opens but it wouldn't pick up the USB port connection. I spent a couple of hours last night trying all different things, it seems like Lbuntu no longer seems to recognise ttyUSB1, I even tried installing PuTTY to see if I could change the settings using that, but no. The only way I could get around the problem was to install Ubuntu 9.10 on a separate small partition of its own and presto, without touching anything it worked, just a bit of a nuisance having two operating systems when one should do. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 utility and Lbuntu 12.04
Thanks for that Dick, I think the only real difference is the Desktop, the Lbuntu is the light version of Ubuntu which as it doesn't have the glossy graphics heavy Desktop. I haven't tried it on the Desktop PC as it means lugging the radio downstairs to the main computer, that's the reason why I use the Netbook. I don't really want to put Ubuntu 12.04 on the Netbook as it slows it down quite a bit, I might have to stick with the work around for now. -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-utility-and-Lbuntu-12-04-tp7557039p7557043.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Hi there-- I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with K3 Utility v1.12.3.28 with no problems at all! I don't know the difference between Ubuntu and Lbuntu, but perhaps David Fleming does (he coded the K3 Utility for Linux). 73 de Dick, ka1oz Elecraft K3/100K #859 GAP Titan-DX Vertical G5RV Doublet On 06/04/2012 03:10 AM, G4LNA wrote: > I did have a search for this, but I found no other replies, so I'm wondering > if anyone else is having the same problem. > > I recently installed LBuntu 12.04 on my netbook which I use for updating the > K3, previously it had 10.04 LTS and the K3 utility worked fine, but now with > Lbuntu it doesn't seemed to work.
