Below is a copy of e-mail that I received from Elecraft
today regarding cable for KAT500.

Dear Peter;

Thank you for your recent KPAK3AUX cable set order. If you ordered this
cable to be used with your KAT500 you do not need the entire cable set.

This morning we released the optional Kat500 to KPA500 cable, E850463
for $24.95. This is the same cable included in the Aux cable set,
without the two additional items you will not need for your KAT500.

If you would like to change your order to the new cable only, E850463,
please reply and let me know.

Regards,

[Elecraft] KAT500 cable?

2012-11-02 Thread AC6JA
I'm waiting for my KAT500 as well as the optional E850463 cable to ship
any day now.
After reading the recently posted manual, it appears that the KAT500 ships
with the 15-pin cable?
I guess I'm confused now. Did I even need to order this cable or will the
one that comes shipped with the KAT500 work just fine?
Let me know.
Thanks.

Now how about a cable for the rest of us K3 users that don't have a KPA500
and just need a cable from the K3 to the KAT500?

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 cable

2012-10-09 Thread Gary Gregory
*Off the Elercaft order page:

**E850463* *Optional KAT500 to KPA500 Cable*

KAT500 to KPA500 cable. Provides band data to KAT500 for band change prior
to TX,, and feeds through KPAK3AUX cable data from the K3 to the KPA500.
Typically used in addition to the KPAK3AUX cable from the K3 to route band
data, keying and AUXBUS data through the KAT500 to the KPA500. (The KAT500
has AUX Cable IN and OUT connections.)

This is the same 15 pin cable as is contained in the KPAP3AUX cable set
(see above, under the KPA500). That set also includes a Y cable expansion
adapter and a TX line keying interrupt adapter for the K3 to KPA500 link.

Seems like a reasonable price or roll your own as they say

:-)

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 cable

2012-10-09 Thread Dick Dievendorff
We just put it onto the order page yesterday.

You're looking for the E850468 "Optional KAT500 to KPA500 Cable". It will
also work as a K3 to KAT500 cable. It's like the KPAK3AUX but doesn't
include the Y or Tx line keying adapter that are included in the KPAK3AUX
cable set.

http://www.elecraft.com/elecraft_prod_list.htm#kat500 You may need to
refresh your browser cache if you have a cached older copy of the Elecraft
order page.

I read in the recently posted manual that the KAT500 includes the PC connection
serial TRS cable. But, I did not read thoroughly enough to know whether other
cables were included too.

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 cable?

2012-11-02 Thread AC6JA
Excerpt from the KAT500 manual posted on the Elecraft website:

DB15 interface cables with male and female connectors (one cable supplied).
 Do not use
common VGA cables; they are not wired correctly for this use (See
Interface Cable Wiring on page
10). One cable is supplied with the KAT500. If you need a second cable,
you can order E850463 from
Elecraft or you can make your own. These cables provide the best
integration of the KAT500 with the
K3 and KPA500 by:
 Including the essential Key line that inhibits the KPA500 amplifier. The
Key line circuit
passes through the KAT500 where it is automatically opened whenever a
KAT500 tune
operation occurs. This inhibits the KPA500 to avoid applying excessive RF
power while the
KAT500 is tuning. If you need access to the key line to control external
equipment, see
Elecraft K3 Transceiver and KPA500 Amplifier with Separate Key Line on
page 7.
 Providing band data from the K3 to the KAT500 that allows it to switch
to the current band at
the same time as the K3 instead of waiting until RF is applied and allows
the KPA500
amplifier to send the K3 status information (see the KPA500 Owner’s Manual
for complete
details).

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 cable?

2012-11-02 Thread Bob Cunnings
I downloaded the KAT500 manual from the website a few minutes ago,
Revision A. I think it's been changed since you downloaded it, I see
only a portion of the text you quote below. However,
bullet (4) on page 7 still starts with the line "DB15 interface cables
with male and female connectors (one cable supplied)." Maybe was meant
to be edited also since according to this posting:

http://www.mail-archive.com/elecraft@mailman.qth.net/msg144134.html

the cable isn't going to be included. I called and added a
E850463 cable to my KAT500-K order just today and was told "lots of
guys are adding the cable to their orders" without any mention that
it's already included.

I thought that one cable was included with the KAT500 but if you also had
the KPA500 then you needed two cables and thus had to buy an extra one.
