There are more and more remote controlled stations these days, and this feature should be on all of them. Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Remote control problem & question
Another feature to look for in remote power switches is what mine calls "Auto-ping." You set up the switch to ping a remote, highly reliable server - Google and others operate servers used for this purpose. If a ping fails to respond, the switch counts failures until a user-set number that suggests the network is down. At that point it cycles power on a designated outlet. Here, the DSL modem/router is connected to that outlet. This reboots the modem/router and gives you a "fresh" networking environment, even when things have gone so bad that you can't talk to the switch, your station, etc. These remote power switches are great! There are many on the market. Mine is from Digital Loggers at webpowerswitch.com. /Rick N6XI On Mon, Nov 4, 2013 at 3:52 AM, Doug Joyce wrote: > GM: If you are looking for a unit to provide remote AC power switching, > checkout the Professional 4-port Remote Power Switch from Ambery (Model > IP-P3) see http://www.ambery.com/prreposwphco.htm > > It can be remotely controlled via phone or web control and provides four > separately switched AC outlets. Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 Remote control problem & question
GM: If you are looking for a unit to provide remote AC power switching, checkout the Professional 4-port Remote Power Switch from Ambery (Model IP-P3) see http://www.ambery.com/prreposwphco.htm It can be remotely controlled via phone or web control and provides four separately switched AC outlets. In our remote station, I have 6 outlet power bars plugged into the first three switched AC outlets and a separate primary power relay controlled by the 4th outlet. The K3 power supply goes to the first power bar, other accessories (1216H & L from Microbit) and T2X rotators go to the 2nd & 3rd power bars and the 4th is used to control primary power to the KPA500. Ours has been in use for over a year (using only internet control) and has operated without any problems. 73, Doug VE3MV On 2013-Nov-03, at 10:07 PM, iain macdonnell - N6ML wrote: > On Sun, Nov 3, 2013 at 12:37 PM, Jim - KE8G wrote: >> Hello All, >> Well, Murphy raised his ugly head this weekend during the ARRL SSCW contest. >> >> I am operating remote and everything was working fine; the K3 radio, KTA500 >> tuner, and KPA500 amplifier. Unless you have a way to remotely cycle the AC supply to the KPA500, you're "SOL". I have a relay on the 220VAC supply going to mine, which runs off the K3's ACC 12V output, so if I power-cycle the K3, the KPA500 follows. It is necessary once in a while, when the firmware hangs. 73, ~iain / N6ML __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Restart the amp, Jim. Hope you can power it on/off remotely! Had that only once in my remote setup and power-cycling the map did the trick. 73, Olli - DH8BQA - Original Message - From: "Jim - KE8G" To: Sent: Sunday, November 03, 2013 9:37 PM Subject: [Elecraft] KPA500 Remote control problem & question Hello All, Well, Murphy raised his ugly head this weekend during the ARRL SSCW contest. I am operating remote and everything was working fine; the K3 radio, KTA500 tuner, and KPA500 amplifier. I was monitoring things via the Elecraft software for the tuner and amp. I was on 80 meters and saw a HI SWR warning come on the KPA500 software, but not on the KAT500 software. I clicked the "Clear Error" area and then received a Comm ERR. The KPA500 software seemed to freeze and the only thing I could do was terminate the program. I re-started the software and it gave me an error message saying it could not make contact with the KPA500. I closed all the running programs on the remote PC, and then did a re-boot. All is working well except for the KPA500 software. I keep getting an error message telling me the KPA500 remote is not running and it can't find the amp. Any ideas that I can do via the Internet?
