[Elecraft] KX3 NR

2013-01-21 Thread kissov
I just go a KX3 and love it. The first couple of days I played with various
knobs and buttons I found that I could change the NR settings with the knob
above the button. I lost that ability when I loaded the latest beta firmware.
I inquired at Elecraft how I could restore the ability to change the NR
settings and was told that that feature had not yet been implemented. Has
anyone with a recent KX3 purchase had the same experience? Thank you.

[Elecraft] [KX3] NR setting

2012-08-03 Thread Pierre
.. On page 13 of the KX3 manual, we can read this:

Holding NR turns on noise reduction and displays its setting, which can be
adjusted using the knob above the switch. Tap any switch to exit the setting
display.

I have installed the NR but cannot adjust its setting using the control knob
above the switch. Am I missing something?

2013-01-22 Thread Wayne Burdick
NR settings have never been adjustable. But we do hope to add that
feature in a future release. For now, to adjust the NR parameters you
must use the RX NR menu entry. Search the KX3 firmware release notes
for "RX NR" for details.

You may have been changing the MONitor, AF gain, or RF gain settings.

What I meant was "NR settings have never been adjustable using the

entry.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 NR

2013-01-23 Thread Wayne Burdick

Hi Geo,

Here are the firmware notes regarding NR adjustment, which I'll also
be including in the new errata sheet.

73,
Wayne
N6KR

* * *

* NOISE REDUCTION (NR) ADDED: Receive noise reduction reduces the
amplitude of random noise while preserving desired signals. (RX NR is
different from the VFO NR menu setting, which can be used to reduce
VFO tuning noise on the higher bands.) NR works in CW, SSB, and AM
modes. NR has a characteristic “hollow” sound. To turn NR on/off, hold
the NR switch. Also see RX NR x menu entry, below. Note: NR is not
available when AGC is turned off.

* RX NR x MENU ENTRY ADDED: Allows the user to customize receive noise
reduction (NR). The letter appearing at ‘x’ in the menu entry name
shows which parameter is being adjusted:  B (beta; tap ‘1’), D (decay;
tap ‘2’), or M (wet/dry mix; tap ‘3’). The defaults are recommended,
and this menu entry is locked to prevent accidental changes. The NR
settings for CW are separate from those for voice modes.

Using the RX NR menu entry: Unlock the parameter by holding KHZ for
about 3 seconds; the VFO A lock icon will disappear. Then tap ‘1’,
‘2’, or ‘3’ to select a parameter to change. You can turn NR on/off
while in the menu to test its effectiveness.
The default beta is 5 for CW and 10 for voice modes. A lower beta will
further reduce noise, but may attenuate weak signals. The default
decay is 240. A much lower decay value will allow NR to track fading
signals better, at the expense of somewhat worse noise rejection. The
mix value determines how much of the signal is “dry” (unprocessed) vs.
“wet” (processed). The default is 220 in CW mode and 250 in voice modes
—essentially “all wet”. You might want to use a lower mix number to
reduce the “hollow” sound or to minimize the effect of NR on weak
signals.

Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] NR setting

2012-08-06 Thread JP O'Connor
Hello Pierre,

If I recall correctly, the NR function was implemented in a later version
of the firmware. The user manual errata document from April noted some
features that weren't yet implemented.

However, I think you will find NR works now in the current firmware
version. Upgrading is very quick and easy. Also, documents and firmware
revision notes are available on the Elecraft web site.

If I am incorrect in any of the above, or if you have additional problems
or questions, I'm sure other folks here will get you going!

Thanks,
JP

[Elecraft] [KX3] NR feature when switching VFO A & VFO B with different mode set

2014-08-04 Thread Jean-François | VA2SS
Hi folks,

I'm running latest KX3 beta firmware 2.12 / DSP 1.3.

If I set VFO A as LSB mode and VFO B as FM mode by example. and after if
I enable the NR (noise reduction) on VFO A... and then switch to VFO B, that
is indeed set in FM, makes the NR to be disable automatically.

Then switching back to VFO A, that was previously set in LSB mode, ...
BUT... the NR do NOT come enable like it was also previously set So it
must be re-enable on VFO A.

So my guess is when using a mode that do not support, NR feature by example,
it will prevent the KX3 to switchback to this state when changing to another
VFO that could use the feature and that was previously set.

Could somebody check this if I missed something or not ??

Regards,

J-F VA2SS
