Hi guys!I think I will use the interface I built for ft817 by modifying
cabling. It comes from G4ILO (thanks a lot Julian) and I added a couple of
insulation transformers 600/600 Ohm.It works fine and it's really cheap as
for Usb soundcard I payed 5 $. This way I have a Vox actuated PTT and I
leave the notebook (a MacBook in my case) internal soundcard to its job. In
addition by pressing buttons on the card I can regulate volume without
opening any window.
No problem for driver as system uses it immediately without any answer even
in OSx or in Win7 virtualized there.

This seems a popular topic on the KX3.

For computer interfacing the KX3 for running various soundcard 
programs a simple interface is needed for PTT, Keying, and transmit 
audio.  It is assumed that one side of the IQ baseband will serve for 
connection of Rx audio to the soundcard.

1) using the Mic-PTT
2) using GPIO input

Transmit audio from a soundcard will have to be:
1) isolated

RS232 needs to be isolated from KX3 PTT and KEY.

No transformer is needed if simple chassis-to-chassis bonding is done 
between computer and rig.  I am finding though that a good USB audio 
interface can improve decoding capability, and that would be a better 
use of money than a transformer.  I posted a couple of suggestions last 
week, and W0YK came up with another good one.

I should have mentioned in my last post that I have not used one of these 
transformers yet.

I just connected the audio out on the FT-1000 MP right to the sound card in 
the computer.  That was to give a RTTY contest a try.  There was no 
problems, so I guess my grounding was working OK.

But I have them "just in case"!  :-)

my own soldered directly to the cables.  Works very well.

600 Ohm and 10K Ohm if memory serves me right.

Which would be needed if we had to resort to using them?

Many thanks for the quick reply. I think I will play safe and get an
interface box from the very beginning. I also suspected that there would be
no room for isolation transformers in the KX3. It is nevertheless amazing
what the box contains. I am looking forward to play with this beauty.

The KX3 does not contain isolation transformers - there is not adequate 
room inside.
Yes, you may connect to the mic and phone jacks directly, and that can 
sometimes be done if the computer and the KX3 are properly bonded 
together (see K9YC's papers).  If the bonding does not cure hum and 
noise pickup, you will probably have to add isolation transformers 
outside the KX3 (or use an interface box).
