Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and the KPA500

2018-10-26 Thread Don Wilhelm

Noel,

The answer is on page 5 of the KX3 manual. The Keyline Out signal is on
the ring. The tip is the GPIO input. Of course, the shell is common
(ground).

So connect to the ring and shell.

Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] KX3-> KXPA100=> KPA500 ... Can it be done?

2016-08-04 Thread Don Wilhelm
KX3 to KXPA100 connections are covered well in the KXPA100 manual.
Download from Elecraft if you do not yet have that manual.

Connecting the KPA500 to the KXPA100 requires a cable from the KXPA100
PA KEY to the KPA500 PA KEY connector. Of course, you would also
connect the coax, but that should be obvious.

The KPA500 would sense the RF and switch to the correct band - or you
could select the band on the front panel.

[Elecraft] KX3/K3 and KPA500

2014-04-04 Thread Phil Hystad
I am thinking of setting up a configuration to easily switch my KX3 and K3 with
my KPA500. That is, I want to use both K3 and KX3 to drive KPA500 without too
much cable swapping or re-configuration work.

Has anyone done this and if so how did you do it?

Right now, my K-line is K3/P3 -- KPA500 -- KAT500

Given configuration and cabling issues I am not sure if I can use the KAT500
easily with the KX3 driving the KPA500. Has anyone done this, are their issues
to resolve?

Thanks for any help

Re: [Elecraft] KX3/K3 and KPA500

2014-04-04 Thread Phil Hystad
KX3 has dual-watch and the K3 doesn't. I would like to use my KX3 for DX that
often operates split and so far working without also listening on the split TX
frequency is giving me a clear disadvantage. This is all CW, not SSB.

Since I only have the KX3/10 right now, I am thinking that I could use it with
my KPA500 when I am operating at home. I have not yet acquired the KXPA100.

If there is a better alternative (yes, buying the Sub-RX is better but that is
future too) then let me know. I don't particular like the REV feature for
switching TX/RX but it is a cheap alternative but just not as nice as
dual-watch (or, SubRX).

Another cool thing about the KX3 is that RX I/Q output port. Since there is no

KX3's Split and Sub features together, I can see where there are holes in a DX
pileup, and/or jump right on the frequency of the last guy the DX station is
working. Combining this feature with the ability to use the KPA500 and the

6th/7th grade (now also a FB friend) is the only other phil I ever knew in
school (grade school and high school).

If you want to see how rare your name is, go to Wolfram Alpha and type in your
name. It will show you a graph of the names popularity over the years and also
its rank in terms of names and even how many people alive today have that name
(probably US data only). Web site is: www.wolframalpha.com.

You can keep Phil Wheeler and I separate by noting that my name is lower case
and his is capitalized.

My problem is Bills. In any crowd or waiting room
they sound too much the same. Then I become
Phillip ;-)

Too many Phils! :-)

It is a new problem for me. Throughout all of my childhood, in school, and
such, having the name phil has made me unique. There were all kinds of Jims,
Bobs, Mikes, Daves, Dicks, but rarely any other phils. My best friend in
6th/7th grade (now also a FB friend) is the only other phil I ever knew in
school (grade school and high school).

Re: [Elecraft] KX3/K3 and KPA500

2014-04-04 Thread Slava Baytalskiy
Sound like all you need is the W2IHY iPlus box.
It will switch between 3 radios with one mic, PTT and an amp...
I have and use it all the time.

I am thinking of setting up a configuration to easily switch my KX3 and K3

without too much cable swapping or re-configuration work.

Has anyone done this and if so how did you do it?

 Right now, my K-line is K3/P3 -- KPA500 -- KAT500

Given configuration and cabling issues I am not sure if I can use the KAT500
easily with the KX3 driving the KPA500. Has anyone done this, are their
 issues to resolve?

 Thanks for any help

[Elecraft] KX3 with a KPA500

2013-01-17 Thread AC6JA
I currently have my K3 hooked up to the KPA500 and KAT500 using the
optional band data cable.
What would be the cleanest way to be able to hook up the KX3 to the
KPA500/KAT500 with the least amount of cable swapping?
Obviously I would need a coax switch to switch the RF input from the K3 to
the KX3.
I'm curious about the ALC and PTT lines? What can be left connected?
Has anybody tried this setup yet?
Let me know.
Thanks.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 with a KPA500

2013-01-17 Thread Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft

H Mike,

Only amp keying and RF from the KX3 (or any other rig) must be fed the
amp. No alc is needed with the Kx3 due to its low drive level.

The KPA500 will automatically and seamlessly band switch when the KX3
first transmits on a new band by using its internal frequency counter.
