Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and the KPA500
Noel, The answer is on page 5 of the KX3 manual. The Keyline Out signal is on the ring. The tip is the GPIO input. Of course, the shell is common (ground). So connect to the ring and shell. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/26/2018 12:19 PM, NOEL POULIN wrote: Hello, One of my friend is making a cable to key the KPA500 with his KX3. Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] KX3-> KXPA100=> KPA500 ... Can it be done?
KX3 to KXPA100 connections are covered well in the KXPA100 manual. Download from Elecraft if you do not yet have that manual. Connecting the KPA500 to the KXPA100 requires a cable from the KXPA100 PA KEY to the KPA500 PA KEY connector. Of course, you would also connect the coax, but that should be obvious. The KPA500 would sense the RF and switch to the correct band - or you could select the band on the front panel. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/4/2016 1:13 AM, 'David F. Re: [Elecraft] KX3/K3 and KPA500
KX3 has dual-watch and the K3 doesn't. I would like to use my KX3 for DX that often operates split and so far working without also listening on the split TX frequency is giving me a clear disadvantage. This is all CW, not SSB. Since I only have the KX3/10 right now, I am thinking that I could use it with my KPA500 when I am operating at home. I have not yet acquired the KXPA100. Too many Phils! :-) Another cool thing about the KX3 is that RX I/Q output port. Since there is no KXP3 (coming soon...? Maybe) I run the RX I/Q output into the Line In port on my computer and run the free software package NaP3. I'm using an Apple iMac with 27 display, so I have a very nice display of a chunk of band. Using the KX3's Split and Sub features together, I can see where there are holes in a DX pileup, and/or jump right on the frequency of the last guy the DX station is working. Combining this feature with the ability to use the KPA500 and the KAT500 makes the KX3 a very, very spiffy rig. Just like having a K3 with the P3. Almost. I currently have my K3 hooked up to the KPA500 and KAT500 using the optional band data cable. What would be the cleanest way to be able to hook up the KX3 to the KPA500/KAT500 with the least amount of cable swapping? Obviously I would need a coax switch to switch the RF input from the K3 to the KX3. I'm curious about the ALC and PTT lines? What can be left connected? Has anybody tried this setup yet? Let me know. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 with a KPA500
H Mike, Only amp keying and RF from the KX3 (or any other rig) must be fed the amp. No alc is needed with the Kx3 due to its low drive level. The KPA500 will automatically and seamlessly band switch when the KX3 first transmits on a new band by using its internal frequency counter. 73, Eric elecraft.com On 1/17/2013 4:57 PM, ac...@aol.com wrote: I currently have my K3 hooked up to the KPA500 and KAT500 using the optional band data cable. Thanks.
