[Elecraft] OT---Sorta A New Version of "Charlie on The MTA" From Our Kingston Trio Days

2014-04-26 Thread Kenneth Moorman

What follows is in no way to be taken as anything negative to Elecraft, but
here goes:

I ordered a KUSB from Elecraft on April 13th, a Sunday, and received word
that it shipped Tuesday evening, April 15th. The device has never arrived
here in Williamsburg, about 60 miles from Sandston, VA, 13 days later. The
tracking number yields the following very sad (to me at least) story of our
tax dollars very, very hard at work, apparently keeping the US airline
industry in the air. I apologize for the length, but it is what it is. At
least I don't need to worry about my "Charlie" needing a sandwich as it
passes and passes through the USPS distribution centers in Sandston and San
Jose:

2014-04-26 Thread Scott Manthe
Our tax dollars don't support the USPS. And you'd have received you KUSB
a lot sooner had you called USPS to ask about it at the first sign of
trouble. Tracking info can be useful for something like this and you
could've used it to your advantage.

I guess that wouldn't have been the same story, though.

Re: [Elecraft] OT---Sorta A New Version of "Charlie on The MTA"From Our Kingston Trio Days

2014-04-26 Thread Milt -- N5IA
My recently shipped Elecraft part arrived via USPS in three days time, from
California to New Mexico, via who knows where.

The United States Postal Service is a federal government agency.

The authority for the creation of the Post Office is found in the U.S.
Constitution at Article I, Section 8, which says, in part:

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts
and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general
welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be
uniform throughout the United States…

To establish post offices and post roads;"

Yes, it’s in the same clause that allows Congress to tax us and to raise an
army and a navy.

US Postal Service workers are FEDERAL employees.

The US Congress writes the rules, postal regulations and laws controlling
the Post Office. a postal crime including graffiti on a post office
wallis a FEDERAL CRIME.

The U.S. Postal Service is, by law, an "independent establishment" of the
executive branch.

The agency doesn't normally use tax dollars for operations, except when it
needs a loan to cover all the unfunded debt, it must, by Congressional act,
get that loan from the US Treasury. The USPS CANNOT borrow money from a
private lender.

The Postal Service has been borrowing billions of dollars from taxpayers in
recent years to make up shortfalls caused by declining mail volumes and a
2006 congressional mandate to prefund retirement health care benefits.

If I destroy a mailbox, it is a federal offense.

If I attack a mail person, it is a federal offense.

If I rob a mail truck, it is a federal offense.

And if your Elecraft part does not arrive in time, and does a 3-times-around
tour of the good ol' USA, it is NOT a federal offense.

73, and enjoy the upcoming Sabbath day where there has NOT been any USPS
mail delivery since 1912.

It all depends on whose Sabbath you are referring to. The USPS still
delivers mail on my Sabbath. There is talk of cutting deliveries to
three days a week, but all that will accomplish is to make larger
per-carrier loads to deliver, necessitating more carrier-hours, which
doesn't save money at all.

I applaud Elecraft's support of the USPS.

And somewhat ironically, the USPS delivers for FedEx. Webber shipped me
a new set of grill grates for my BBQ via FedEx, sending me a
confirmation with a FedEx tracking number. It was delivered by a real
USPS employee in a real USPS truck with a real USPS tracking label on
the box. It was Thursday, I don't know if they do that on Sunday.

USPS also delivers for UPS. If you find a site that offers UPS Economy
shipping, the order will be shipped initially by UPS, but it is
delivered to your post office and it comes in your mailbox by the postal
carrier.

No Sunday deliveries here.
