Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta Firmware Issue with DX Labs
I just updated my P3 to the beta firmware. The symptom Gary described also occurs here after I switch between SVGA data mode on/off. I find that I now have to power cycle the P3 to get CW decode to begin flowing data to Commander->WinWarbler again. I did not have to perform a P3 power cycle when switching between SVGA data on/off in the current production firmware. 73, Tony K4QE On Sat, Mar 19, 2016 at 12:43 AM, Gary Watsonwrote: > Hi, I have updated to the latest P3 Beta firmware MCU 1.59 and have the > SVGA option installed. > > It's working great, except with the previous firmware, with SVGA Data off, > DX Labs Winwarbler would display both decoded CW and RTTY from the K3 and > with SVGA Data on it would disable Winwarbler. > > Now only RTTY will display on Winwarbler. [Elecraft] P3 Beta Firmware Issue with DX Labs
Hi, I have updated to the latest P3 Beta firmware MCU 1.59 and have the SVGA option installed. It's working great, except with the previous firmware, with SVGA Data off, DX Labs Winwarbler would display both decoded CW and RTTY from the K3 and with SVGA Data on it would disable Winwarbler. Now only RTTY will display on Winwarbler. CW is never displayed on Winwarbler with SVGA Data on or off. Could this be a minor bug in the Beta firmware? The new #RCF command works perfectly by the way. Any ideas? Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta Firmware
Hi Jim, I am running the 1.35/1.22 firmware but I haven't tried the NB feature. My interest was in the SVGA hang-up going from transmit to receive. In that regard this version is 90% better than 1.29. It still experiences the hang-up occasionally. Other than that I have not experienced any bugs. With that caveat in mind if you want a copy just e-mail me directly and I'll send the zip file to you. k2mk at comcast dot net 73, Mike K2MK Jim KS7S wrote I can't seem to find the latest beta firmware for the P3 - I downloaded the 1.21/1.34 version (NB on SVGA) but didn't download the 1.22/1.35 version when it came out. Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta Firmware
You aren't doing anything wrong. But, per Howard at Elecraft, it was so bug ridden that it and the .33 version were removed from public sight. Use the current version, you'll be fine until they have the staff time to put into the P3-ware. Once I went back to the 1.29, all was well with the SVGA card. [Elecraft] P3 beta firmware 01.29
This version is a slight modification of 01.28, which added the noise blanker. The only changes are to the cursors in DATA A mode and another minor bug fix involving the FN1 label. It can be uploaded from the P3 beta web site: ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/P3/firmware/beta/p3m0129.zip Un-zip the file into the directory that P3 Utility uses for firmware. Make sure you have the most recent version of P3 Utility (1.13.1.23). The p3fwnotes.rtf file lists the new features and bug fixes since the last official release. Below is some text I will be submitting for the P3 Owner's Manual to explain the new noise blanker feature. Alan N1AL = Noise Blanker The noise blanker in the P3 reduces the effect of impulse-type noise on the display. It has little or no effect on other types of noise such as thermal noise and static crashes but can dramatically reduce impulse noise from sources such as the AC power line and the ignition systems of motor vehicles. The noise blanker is turned on or off using the menu entry NB En which can be assigned to a function key for easy access. You can adjust the aggressiveness of the noise blanker algorithm with the menu entry NB Level. The higher the setting the more completely it blanks the noise but also the more likely it will cause distortion of desired signals. Use the lowest setting that effectively blanks the noise. A value of about 10 or 11 is a good starting point for experimentation. Note that the REF LVL and SCALE settings have no effect on the noise blanker. If there are one or more very strong signals within the P3 displayed frequency range, the noise blanker has a hard time detecting the difference between the unwanted pulses and the wanted signals. The solution is to narrow the span and/or offset the center frequency (perhaps using fixed-tune mode) to place the strong signals well outside the P3's display range. = __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta firmware available- Data terminal mode
Since this is BETA firmware it may have some bugs and features yet to be implemented. Also note that using BETA firmware may alter your saved settings within the P3/SVGA. Use at your own risk, but please forward any comments, requests or bugs to me. Here's how to download and install the firmware on your P3/SVGA: 1) Follow this link and download the .zip file to your computer: ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/P3/firmware/beta/SVGA_0105BETA.zip 2) extract all the files and place them in a temporary folder. In the temporary folder you should have several files, make sure p3m0117.hex and p3s0105.hex exist. 3) start P3 utility and verify that the version of the P3 utility is 1.12.4.26 , you will need this version in order to download ALL the firmware to the P3 SVGA boards. If you don't have this version, it can be downloaded at: http://www.elecraft.com/software/P3/P3_Utility_Setup_1_12_4_26.exe 4) Make sure the P3 is connected to your computer over the serial port on the back. 5) Start the P3 utility and click on the firmware tab. 6) Click on the BROWSE button and navigate to the temporary folder you extracted all the files to. Click OK. 7) Then click on SEND ALL FIRMWARE TO P3. 8) All firmware will now download to the P3/SVGA board. Once the firmware has downloaded you press the MENU button on the P3 and verify that the firmware version is 1.17,. After that you should be able to access the menu selections on the P3. I also would strongly suggest reading the enclosed Quick Start Guide pdf file (in the .zip file package) 73, Paul -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/P3-Beta-firmware-available-Data-terminal-mode-tp7559633p7559760.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] P3 Beta firmware available- Data terminal mode
For those interested in such things, new beta firmware for the P3 was posted on Friday, 20 July at: ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/P3/firmware/beta/ This new firmware includes a beta implementation of the awaited data mode, where a P3 equipped with the SVGA card can display incoming and outgoing text when an attached K3 is in the Data decode mode. The P3's rear panel USB keyboard connector is active, allowing operation in data modes without an attached computer. Even without a keyboard attached, the external SVGA display can show up to 40 lines of received data mode (CW/RTTY/PSK31) text, instead of just the small scrolling display in the K3's VFO B area. This is a nice step forward. Congratulations to the development team for achieving this milestone. 73, Bruce, N1RX __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] P3 Beta firmware available- Data terminal mode
Mike, there are no screenshots posted yet. The new RX/TX text display mode is only available on the external monitor when using the P3SVGA option. The P3 utility does not (yet) support capturing a screenshot of the external display. I do not know if there are plans to support this in the future. I would imagine that once this capability moves past beta to a general software release, there will be pictures posted on the website. This will be a major feature point for the sale of P3SVGA options, so I expect it will be featured on the product page. For now, if a user wanted to post his or her own screenshots, it would need to be done via YouTube or a still shot from a handheld camera or phone, etc. 73, Bruce, N1RX Are there any screenshots to see for those of us without the card?
