Re: [Elecraft] P3 Issue
Ken an Mike I did some Troubleshooting over the Years. 2 thing to help. I understand that there is an App for the I-Phone that Lets you see a Heat/IR Pattern on the screen. This should help SEE a Heated Part. The 2nd is, get a Can of Component Cooler/ Freeze Spray to Shoot the Hot Part and see The Problem recovers. I wou;ld Clean All Cables, Sockets and Plugs Power Supply Connections FIRST. The P3 has both +5V and + 3.3V regulators with crowbar over-voltage protection, and both are fed from the +12V DC input jack. The P3 SVGA board has additional voltage regulators supplying 1.2, 2.5, and 3.3V, and these are fed from the +5 V regulated supply on the P3 Rear Panel I/O board. My suspicion is a thermal sensitivity in the +5 V regulator or its crowbar protection circuit. However, I would first check the +12V DC input connection to the P3 and be sure that it is stable at +12V over time. If you supply that voltage from the auxiliary +12V output of a K3 or K3s, you should also check that the problem doesn't stem from a problem inside the transceiver. My recollection is that a modification was required in the original K3 to increase the available current at the auxiliary +12V DC output to support the SVGA option in the P3. I am curious to know what you find... 73, Mike, K8CN __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to wa6...@gmail.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] P3 Issue
About 8 hours into CQWW CW, one of my P3's bandscope function stopped working. I checked the cables. I powered the unit off. When it came on, it worked for a few seconds. The outboard monitor worked for a few seconds. Then it stopped working. I did this a few times with the exact same results. I never turned it or the radio off after the contest. This morning before swapping P3s to make sure it was a P3 issue, I turned the P3 off and when I turned it back on after just a few seconds, it worked perfectly. I felt half blind during most of the contest, so I want to make sure I don't run into this again. Any suggestions. 73, Ken, K6LA / VY2TT __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] P3 Issue Resolved
Firmly wiggling the cables (for the 3rd time) resolved the problem. Something is probably loose inside. Re: [Elecraft] P3 Issue
You could first check if you get stable connection using the PX3-utility. If that does not work, it could be an unstable power supply issue (0,5A ~12V required). Otherwise I suppose there is a loose connection inside of the P3. You could check the cable from the main board to the display. The manual has a section about replacing the display with useful pictures (fig 25&26). 73 Gernot DF5RF Am 11.01.2021 um 23:46 schrieb Ken Widelitz: P3 stopped working. [Elecraft] P3 issue solved
It appears that I got a defective cable from Elecraft. There's a first time for everything. I was using the single cable from the P3 to the K3S. When I swapped it for the double connected P3 to K3S cable, it worked. This after an hour of reloading firmware, plugging and unplugging...and finally rereading the P3 manual troubleshooting section. You'd think after 22 years of being a tech writer, RTFM would have been the first step. [Elecraft] P3 Issue
When I turn off the P3 and then turn it back on again I lose all my settings. They revert to the factory settings. It doesn't do it every time but maybe half the time. Seems to be getting worse. It's a pain resetting the parameters I want after this happens. Re: [Elecraft] P3 Issue
I had the same problem but didn't seem to be related to changing bands but happened doing a calibration per page 24 of the manual. The message said FATAL ERROR, but a reset cleared the error. This happened twice during the same operation. Like you, I didn't log the keystrokes leading up to the error. 73, Jack - WE5ST From: pkhjr k...@yahoo.com To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Thu, March 22, 2012 9:05:42 AM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] P3 Issue I'm a newbie having just acquired a used P3.
