[Elecraft] Re: INRAD will be soon making custom RX filters for the K2?

2007-03-19 Thread VR2BrettGraham

Some radios require some extra effort to tame filter
blow-by (especially when the filter physically cannot
fit in place of what it replaces).

The K2 just doesn't seem to lend itself to after-
market filters - both as a result of the above
(this should have warned us all who have tried) by
the firmware not allowing selection of anything but
the OEM filter.

[Elecraft] Re: INRAD will be soon making custom RX filters for the K2?

2007-03-18 Thread Chuck Guenther
Since the K2 filter ultimate rejection is apparently sensitive to the lead
length of the ground leads on the filter crystals (Elecraft instructions
require the crystals be grounded near the bottom of the cans), it is not
surprising that experiments with add-on filters resulted in compromised
ultimate rejection.

Although I've used INRAD filters to improve the performance of a TS-850S and an
Omni 6, I'm very happy with the more or less continuously variable selectivity
of the K2 filter, and would see little need for custom filters.
