Re: [Elecraft] Re who would spend 30 hours building a k2?

2018-02-03 Thread Doug Person
I have built 4 K2s. I built 3 just for the pure pleasure of
participating in the engineering art that the K2 represents. The key to
success is to not watch the clock; to not consider time at all when
performing the assembly steps. As in many things in life, you should
focus solely on the current step and current component. Do not think of
the next step or steps later on, or even finishing. Place each component
with all the care you can. One mistake resulting from rushing will cause
you frustration and disappointment. The greatest sense of satisfaction
you can experience when your are finished is to know that you did
everything to highest degree of perfection you are capable of.

put the kit together as quickly as possible without double-checking their
work at each step along the way.

The k2 looks like a bigger challenge .
Mine had the 100w amp included.

2018-01-30 Thread Robert G Strickland
I think that building the K2 has to be an end in itself. I have more
pictures of various pieces taped to colored construction paper than I do
of the radio itself. Other pictures feature my method of winding
toroids. Then, at the end of building, you step over the "building
finish line" to discover that you own one of the really great radios in
the history of amateur radio. Then the operating fun begins.

Re: [Elecraft] Re who would spend 30 hours building a k2?

2018-01-28 Thread Don Wilhelm
If you enjoy kit building, the K2 goes together one part at a time, just
like any other kit. Enjoy the process.

The K2 breaks the assembly into 3 major pieces and has an alignment and
test section following each assembly section so you can check your work.
