Re: [Elecraft] W2 directional coupler N-connector
Thanks for all of the comments. I had an early experience in ham radio with satellites, AO-10 and AO-13, at frequencies 144, 430, 1.3 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz. Because of those frequencies N-connectors became a way of life. So I automatically think of N-connectors when I am working with those frequencies. If Elecraft offered the directional coupler with N-connectors, I would buy it and pay extra for the connectors. 73, Paul N7QOC On 8/7/12 11:18 AM, Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft e...@elecraft.com wrote: Please note that changing the connectors from SO-239s to N's will uncalibrate the W2's directional coupler as you go higher in frequency - especially on 432 MHz, leading to less accurate SWR indications. Re: [Elecraft] W2 directional coupler N-connector
One reason I experience is that UHF connectors are not available for all types of coaxial cable. Case in point, UHF connectors are no longer available for some sizes of Andrew (now Commscope) Heliax however type-N or BNC are for those sizes. So it's not always a bandwidth, loss, or impedance related problem but a simple hardware issue instead. [Elecraft] W2 directional coupler N-connector
I am considering a small EME station on 432 Mhz. I would like to measure output power up to 200 watts. It appears that the current SO-239 connectors in the directional coupler could easily be changed to female N-connectors. Has anyone done that and what has been your experience. not sure why you would change UHFs are good at 432,just need taping,, but then I tape type Ns too,,use good quality Amphenol UHF connectors I used them on a stacked set of K2RIW at 432 and after 15 year of service looked as good as when I put then up Bob K3DJC On Tue, 07 Aug 2012 10:12:47 -0600 pmu...@xmission.com writes: I am considering a small EME station on 432 Mhz. Re: [Elecraft] W2 directional coupler core size
juergen piezo wrote: Elecraft seems to use very small cores for its directional coupler, it does not strike me as the right size ferrite cores for a 2kw meter. However I am no expert on this. I have looked inside many wattmeters as a basis for comparison. Hi Juergen, Thanks for your close scrutiny of the W2's coupler. No need to worry, however: The W2's cores are about the same size as the ones in the Palstar unit, as well as the ones we used successfully in a 1500-watt prototype amplifier. These cores are operating at a satisfactory flux density as shown by careful modeling. They also don't get too warm to the touch when operated at 1500 W. Type 61 material has a Curie temperature around 350 degrees C, and we're not even in that ballpark, even well in excess of 2 KW. 73, Wayne N6KR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
