Re: [Elecraft] Charger question
Skip There is a a discussion on the Elecraft .io forum where a popular power supply manufacturer describes the difference between a Power Suppy and Charger. The manufacturer pointed out that using a power supply to charge lithium batteries is risky, because current is usually not regulated and voltage regulation might not be tight enough. As an engineer friend reminded me, charging lithium battery banks requires tight contrrol of both voltage and current. The 14.8V lipo pack that was discussed would normally be charged with 16.8V (4 x 4.2V) at 500ma to 2A, depending on the battery manufacturere specifications. 73 Howard K4LXY Howard Zehr K4LXY Radio blog: https://k4lxycw.wixsite.com/blog/blog Photo gallery: www.howardzehr.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Charger
As an option, and an Radio Control (RC) plane flier: I use the Hobby Grade Smart Chargers that can handle the actual battery chemistry for the KX2 on mine. For less money than the ProAudio charger I get a very Smart Charger and can handle many chemistries. Ones like this plug directly in the wall and some even have bluetooth to monitor your charge rates. They are only $50. https://www.amazon.com/B680AC-Dual-Power-6Amps-80Watts/dp/B00NLBZJ9C/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=r%2Fc+battery+charger&qid=1564445686&s=gateway&sr=8-10 Mike va3mw On Mon, Jul 29, 2019 at 7:56 PM Gwen Patton wrote: > I THIRD the motion! Re: [Elecraft] Charger
I THIRD the motion! I have one too for my KX3/PX3. I don't use it much now because I got the KXPA100, and a power supply to go with it, and it had extra Powerpole sockets, so I just run the radio off the amp's power supply now. But I got that Pro Audio power supply because of the low noise. For external battery, Talentcell has an 8300mAh @ 12v battery pack that has a 6A max output. I can run both the KX3 and the PX3 and transmit full power (without the amp) and that battery takes it no problem. Got it on Amazon. (They also have an 11000mAh pack that gives 6A at 12v as well.) Re: [Elecraft] Charger
Mark, Are you really looking for a charger, or do you want a power supply? If a power supply, take a look at the PAE Kx33 from Pro Audio Engineering (do a Google search). If you really want a charger, use what is recommended by the supplier of the battery that you wish to use. 73, Don W3FPR On 7/29/2019 4:28 PM, Mark Moeller wrote: Appreciate any recommendations for a 110v charger for my KX2. Re: [Elecraft] Charger problem: ERR BC3 in VFO B, d=002 in VFO A
Works as expected now! This is problem is now resolved by a more serious reseating of the KXBC3 board (as is suggested in the manual). Also, kit builders should take care with the wire routing. Elecraft has certainly got a jewel here. They rock! And, many thanks to Rich, AC7, for responding. 73, Scott, WA7OP - 73, Scott -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Charger-problem-ERR-BC3-in-VFO-B-d-002-in-VFO-A-tp7577217p7577274.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Charger problem: ERR BC3 in VFO B, d=002 in VFO A
I was using Lithiums and when they died I installed fresh NiMH and then worked the Baltic on 5 watts. Then I enabled the charger for 8 hours. The next day the charge setting in the menu displays ERR BC3 in VFO B, d=002 in VFO A. This locks the display with those messages until the KX3 is power cycled. The FW is v1.5. The NiMH cells are not charging. Also the clock won't set and displays 45:85:85. I found the ERR BC3 was encountered by some one else running older FW but there was no definitive resolution. Can anyone provide some ideas for a solution?
