Audio input level has a LOT to do with how well HRD (DM-780) decodes. My K3 LIN OUT setting is 2 (almost off), the SignaLink knob is at noon and the XP sound driver is maxed out. My audio level is rarely above 1% on the lower display of DM-780. Then you have to use the narrowest filter you can to give the sound card as much clean audio as you can. Follow that with the 'squelch' slider on the top of the display (QSO tab, not skimmer) peaking only on actual signal and you'll find that DM-780 can do well with machine sent code. If there is any swing or run on or faint signals, it quits quickly. That's just another example of how Elecraft does things SO much better.
