Re: [Elecraft] K1 Power Supply Opinions

2005-06-08 Thread Eric Ward
Jameco carries a variety of linear, regulated supplies in different
amperages and voltages. They look like wall warts but they are not,
provided you make sure you are ordering a linear regulated supply, and
not an unregulated swticher.

Here is the relevant catalog page off their website:
http://www.jameco.com/Jameco/catalogs/c252/P174.pdf

I bought a 12V 1A job for my KX1 for $20 including shipping, and it
works like a champ--no noise at all.

Usual disclaimer about no commercial interest in Jameco.

QUESTION:

Does anyone prefer one of these 2 PS's as their K1 PS,
or do you prefer a different power supply entirely?

I have a MFJ-4103 and have used it extensively with my K2, including a
trip to Europe (it runs off 240 VAC as well, and uses a standard desktop
computer power cord). There was no noticeable noise from the supply. I
presume it would work fine with a K1 or KX-1, as well.

It would be nice if the output voltage were a bit higher so it would
charge the KBT2. The manufacturer of the CUP36-12-1 makes a 15 volt
version http://www.xpiqmedical.com/cup36.htm, but that might be too
high, although the addition of a series diode should do the trick.

I have the MFJ supply and it does make lots of noise. I modified it to
produce the K2 charging voltage and use it only for that.
