Still useful the diversity mode or just is better to RX ONLY in the

Hola Jorge!

You should at least be able to hear something of the desired signal on both
antennas for diversity. Then you may hear the signal changing between
antennas to help reduce the effects of QSB. However if you cannot hear
anything of the signal on one antenna, then there is no advantage to
diversity.

I have two TX antennas for Topband...a directional vertical array (similar
pattern to a 4 SQ) and an inv-V up 30m. I also have many Beverages and a RX
4SQ array. I try to pick my best 2 antennas and use those for my diversity
inputs. Sometimes Topband signals are switching between high and low angles
and sometimes azimuth directions, so it depends on the specific situation
what combination is best.

Hola Bill!

Thanks !

And can you setup to have two RX antennas for listening on diversity mode or
always one of the antennas must be the TX antenna?

So, you TX in the inv-V and listen in one beverage and in the RX 4SQ array
in diversity mode.

Yes, I normally use two RX antennas in diversity. The RX 4SQ has better F/R
than my TX array so I use a Beverage and RX 4SQ in diversity RX. You must
have the KXV3 for RX ANT in as well as the AUX RF for the KRX3 to be able to
use two RX antennas.

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] K3 in diversity mode

2009-12-11 Thread Julius Fazekas n2wn

Hi Jorge,

I was using five different antennas during ARRL 160 for receive. The main Tx
antenna (72' Marconi), a 40m vertical, 40m delta loop, 80m Marconi (45') and
a 330' beverage.

QRN was not horrible during the contest but we did have a storm front
rolling through the area and regardless which combo of antennas I used in
diversity there was an improvement copying signals. I'm not sure how this
will work in very heavy QRN, but suspect it will still provide an
improvement over listening on just one antenna alone.

It is a fun feature to use.

 K2VCO

 Vic,
Thanks for the info on how to correctly get into the DIVERSITY mode on
the K3. After holding the SUB button down for two seconds I thought that I
was in the diversity mode, and actually had diversity reception. But if I
had continued to hold the button, as you indicated, I would have see
DVRSTY on the display and would have found that the VFO B dial was indeed
deactivated. I still have more to learn about this great K3
 communications
tool. We all should be thankful to have such a large core of K3 users and
the Elecraft support team to help us when the inevitable questions and
 problems arise.

However, I kept having one minor annoyance. With the K3 in the
diversity mode the VFO's are locked so they track the exact same
frequency. More than a few times during the contest, when I used the
RIT, I would accidentily bump the VFO-B knob. To get VFO-B back to the
same frequency required tapping the AB button. Is there any reason
why the VFO-B knob could be not be deactivated when the K3 is in the
diversity mode? I can think of no reason why I'd want to tune VFO-B
while in this mode. Deactivating VFO-B would prevent it accidentily
 unlocking the two VFOs.

It sounds to me as if you were not in diversity mode, but rather LINK
 mode.
If you hold the SUB button for about a second, it links the vfos so that
they will tune together. But the frequencies need not be the same. To get
diversity mode, hold the SUB button for a longer time until you see DVRSTY
on the screen. Then you can use VFO B for a transmit VFO for split
 operation.
