Re: [Elecraft] Beware, Make Sure Your Amp Is In Standby If You Turn On the K3
I had an oddball problem here that does this. The HAL DXP38 TNC (when turned off!) will key the K3 PTT line when the K3 is turned on. Separate power supplies for each. Computer connected to each. If the DXP38 TNC is on and the K3 turned on, all is well. I have never figured out why this happens but took an "engineering approach" to fix it -- a normally open relay in the PTT line of the TNC which is only activated when the TNC powered. Didn't have this problem with two other rigs. I'm not saying it is the K3's fault. To find what's going on: 1) disconnect everything from the K3 2) plug one thing at a time back in until you find the culprit. 73 de Brian/K3KO Guy Olinger K2AV wrote: > Could this be related to concurrently keying the K3 with DTR on a > serial connection (or ???) if part of the turn-on routine included > bring up a PC with some keying/logging program in the PC's startup > list? > > 73, Guy. > > On Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 7:22 AM, Hector Padron wrote: >> Like you was told, there must be something wrong in your setup because I do >> have an Ameritron AL-80B conected all the time to my K3 and more than once I >> have forgot to turn it down to standby and when turned my K3 back on >> nothing wrong happend, just heard the amp relay click for a fraction of a >> second,no damage,no expensive repair. >> >> AD4C >> >> >> >> "For a refined ham it is compulsory to own a k3" >> >> --- On Sun, 4/25/10, Tom W8JI wrote: >> >> >> From: Tom W8JI >> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Beware, Make Sure Your Amp Is In Standby If You Turn >> On the K3 >> To: "-.-. --.-N3TU -.-. --.-" , >> elecraft@mailman.qth.net >> Date: Sunday, April 25, 2010, 11:15 AM >> >> >> <> standby mode and >> turn off my K3. Re: [Elecraft] Beware, Make Sure Your Amp Is In Standby If You Turn On the K3
Could this be related to concurrently keying the K3 with DTR on a serial connection (or ???) if part of the turn-on routine included bring up a PC with some keying/logging program in the PC's startup list? 73, Guy. Re: [Elecraft] Beware, Make Sure Your Amp Is In Standby If You Turn On the K3
Like you was told, there must be something wrong in your setup because I do have an Ameritron AL-80B conected all the time to my K3 and more than once I have forgot to turn it down to standby and when turned my K3 back on nothing wrong happend, just heard the amp relay click for a fraction of a second,no damage,no expensive repair.
