Re: [Elecraft] CW Touch Keyer

2013-01-07 Thread Stephen Roberts
I to have had similar issues with the PF2 touch keyer. For whatever reason, it
is unusable in my shack as it is currently set up. It works just perfect for a
while, then goes haywire. Others swear by it and it does have a very
interesting action. You almost get the sensation that the finger pieces are
moving when you touch them. A very interesting paddle option.

BUT I have built one which works beutifully in my VK shack, where the

In my small QTH at G3SCD where the antennas are also coax fed but very low
and close to the shack, I cannot overcome (yet) the problems of RF getting
back to the keyer and making it quite useless. Toroids, ferrites chokes
etc have been tried with little change
It is intersting to note that there I have what I call a decent earth and
 in VK virtually no earth.
Also in UK 100 watt is my max with the K3 alone.

Re: [Elecraft] CW Touch Keyer

2013-01-07 Thread Chr Quale
Interesting that these RF issues with the Touchkeyer appear on this group
while they hardly have been mentioned in the eham reviews. Own experience
is similar, and was put as

…. Also, I find both the P1 and P6 to be sensitive to RF (in the
shack...). There may be something specific and imperfect with my modest
station set-up, but when I transmit with more than 60 watts, the paddles
get unruly, stop responding and generate random unwanted di-dah
combinations, and the P1-keyer enters into a sequence of repeated restarts,
issuing the FB-response. I have parked the touch paddles for the time
being and stick with paddles from Kent and Palm (mini) to feed either rig
internal or K1EL external keyers. (Full review at
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/5360?page=2 )

Following this can be mentioned that a combined anniversary and Xmas
present now has made me the proud owner of a Begali Graciella key. What a
touch and what a difference from the Kent!
