Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Hats at Dayton

2013-05-20 Thread Jim Lowman
Well, I did get a free pen at the Drake presentation on Saturday. They
were giving them to the first 100 attendees, to promote the Drake net.

As usual, I didn't win anything, either at the FDIM banquet or the
Hamvention. My record of 0-for-every-convention remains intact.

I suppose we should give this topic a rest.

Actually, both the Ken Kesey reference and the Jim Jones People's Temple

"...drinking the Kool Aide". Real truth can be found only through Google! I
drank the Google Kool Aide.

OK, it's 1945PDT Sun night out here on the western frontier, that would
be 2145CDT in Dayton, and Dayton is over. Possibly the "Hat Traffic" on
the list, with or without elevated or buried radials, will subside? It
was fun for awhile, a little old now.

I have been to Dayton at Hamvention-time many times. In the hotel
elevators, packed in with a bunch of guys with multiple HT's on their
belts ... they went to Hamvention, I went to work at WPAFB. One of
these days ... hat or no hat.

Actually, how did "Dayton" become the ham radio destination for the
world in May? I know, the W Bros and bikes and all, but NC claims
"First in Flight," with some justification. It's a real question, off
list would be fine, one of my subsidiary hobbies is historical trivia.

Agreed. I enjoy helping out at the Elecraft booth at every New England ARRL
Convention. I always take time during the weekend to answer any questions I
can for prospective buyers. I try not to exaggerate or sugar-coat. I give my
opinions and relay my experience. I explain why Elecraft products have a
prominent role in my station, having tried many different radios. My station
is not exclusively Elecraft, but I do have now, and have had, many of their
products. I have built, owned and repaired the entire product line, at one
time or another.

It's not about drinking the Kool-Aid. Many of you are probably too young to
remember the true history of that reference anyway; (Jonestown, Guyana,
1978). (For me), volunteering at the Elecraft booth is about sharing your
experiences with others, and letting them make their own judgments.
Answering questions honestly, and saying "I don't know", when that's the
case.

I do it to help share my experience, if anyone should ask. It's a small way
of "giving back", and helping other's make their own informed decisions.

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Hats at Dayton?

2013-05-19 Thread Bruce Beford
Evangelizing customers is a very important part of the Elecraft business and
advertising model.
It works. A small company like Elecraft relies upon (and needs) enthusiastic
customers to help "spread the word". It's the best advertising money can't
buy.

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Hats at Dayton

2013-05-19 Thread Scott W2NTV
it has been a few years since I went to Dayton..money to tight at this
time... I remember the days when companies, very much like Elecraft,
Icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu would give T-Shirts, Hats, mouse pads, and the
ever annoying button away... and if you DIDN'T take the free stuff , the
young girl (probably a model trying to pay rent) would cop an attitude
towards you...). one time I got 4 hats, 3 t-shirts and a very cool pen
that produced a light show from Tokyo Hi Power Amplifier...
Well, sadly I guess the "good ol' days" are done at the "big ham
fests"... HONEY GRAB THE KIDS.. WE NEED TO GO CLOTHES SHOPPING..

To Eric and all the Elecrafters at Dayton this weekend:

THANK YOU!!! And may you recover quickly.

I literally can't tell you how extremely useful Dayton was to me this year,
because of the employees of Elecraft and related companies. And I thought
last year at Dayton was good!

Thanks for putting up with all of us. I know the sheer numbers can be
daunting; someone compared the tsunami of hamsters descending upon the
Elecraft booth at 9:01 am to the Capital One Vikings commercial.

I really like Elecraft's designs, and their commitment to get it right.
Where else would you find a for-profit company with customers volunteering
to help at the booth?

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Hats at Dayton?

2013-05-19 Thread Goldtr8 (KD8NNU)

I did purchase a hat at Dayton yesterday.

Maybe we can convince Elecraft to work with one of those suppliers who do
hats and allow us order direct and then we could get our Call Sign added at
the time of purchase.

I know this can be done. Then Elecraft does not have to bother directly
with the hat guys.

If you take it to the full extreme we could maybe have hats and shirts and
look cool at field days, club events and ham shows. Not sure about tattoos
:-)

Elecraft would have to do something to make this happen as they are the
owners of the trademark.

Well stated mate. Likewise here in VK. I have a T-Shirt done in the US (two

Didn't know I was "Bugging Him" as such wasn't looking for free anything
just wanted to buy a "Real Elecraft Hat" instead of the one's we have from
EU. My friends and I wear ours whenever we go out to any radio related
events, just proud to wear them and per mote the Elecraft line.

We are still surprised at how many hams ask what Elecraft is when they see
our hats, we all are more than happy to tell them all about the great Radios
from them! What a great topic to talk about and meet other hams at the same
time and I will tell you we have had many of them but Elecraft radios
afterwards. Many times they end up in one of our homes to have a go at
different rigs and misc pieces, between all us we have one of everything
Elecraft has ever made.

What else can I say just proud of their company and happy to tell others
about them.

I can't believe u guys are bugging Wayne for hats. Do u have any clue what
is involved in preparing and managing a trade show? Give it a rest and wait
until he gets back to the office.

Note to Wayne:
Extending your brand through promotional items makes good sense financially
and from a marketing point of view. You should consider having a page on
your site for hats, shirts, mugs etc.
