Then get a 3-way RCA jack (female), and connect the outputs of your PC and keyer to it. Finally, a jumper cable with an RCA on one end (to the 3-way jack) and a 1/8" (3.5mm) STEREO plug with ground from the jumper cable to the sleeve of the plug and the hot side of the jumper cable connected to the TIP of the plug. Lou, It is likely that you can simply parallel the devices (connect to the K2 DOT input) and set the K2 for 'INP Hand', as long as one device does not interfere with any of the others. Before attempting it, do check for the presence of voltage from each device to be connected. If you have any voltage present, you may have to make some alterations. Ideally you should have an open collector transistor (or relay points) driving the output line (this is the case on most keyers or computer interfaces, but it is worthwhile checking to be certain). I use phono jack cables for most everything and use a "Y" phone cable to join the memory keyer and the PC keying lines. Lou If both your keyer and your keyboard produce simple closures to ground for keying, you should be able to connect them in parallel. If there is a problem due to something in the output circuits, you could just diode OR them and do fine. The laptop jack in mono, and the paddles jack is stereo. The output is a three wire lead to the key jack in the K2. Inside the can are the two diodes that steer the single keyline from the laptop to both the dit and dah lines to the K2. The paddles connect direct to the dit and dah lines. Hi Vic - I use the auto-detect keying with my paddle and computer both hooked up at the same time. My computer "interface" is a simple one transistor switch. It works perfectly and as far as I can tell I don't get any "spurious long dashes" up to about 33 wpm which is my limit. Note that I filed the "as far as I can tell" disclaimer - have not looked at it on a scope nor have I had any reports - but then - I use it mostly in contesting and in the heat of battle it's not likely that anyone is going to take the time to comment! It is so simple, give it a try and see what you get. Vic and others that may be wondering on this. I use auto-detect with a hand key and paddles on the same line. The two diodes are mounted under my paddles. I have never had a spurious long dash or any other problem with the paddles, but I have noticed that if the contact on the hand key gets a little dirty, occasionally the hand key will cause alternating dots/dashes to be sent. Not sure if this is a diode anomaly or something else. Cleaning the contacts on the handkey by burnishing with a piece of heavy paper has always seemed to fix the problem when it occurs.
