Re: [Elecraft] K3 Frequency Memory Editor

2013-06-05 Thread ANDY NEHAN
Thanks its the 1.1.252.0 version and yes I am using it to program the K3. I
found a later version (1.3.3.0)  which I downloaded and tried and got the same
results - I did note 3 "Writememory2state.Ontimerexpiry" messages.

Hope this clarifies things.

What K3 Frequency Memory Editor version are you using?  And you're using it
with a K3, not a KX3, right?

This is in the Help - About screen.

Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Frequency Memory Editor

Hi, I have noted that when I use the above utility it does what I want apart
from the 50MHz band. I set it to the required frequency and mode (50.250 and
Data) yet when I upload that info to the K3 the mode becomes Data Rev. This
does NOT happen on any other band (and I use the memories to get me to the
PSK frequencies for all bands). On the other bands the frequency is correct
and the mode is Data.

I have tried changing the mode on the K3  to Data then reading that into the
K3 Frequency Memory Editor and then re-exporting it back to the K3 - but the
result is the same.

I guess it must be obvious what I am doing wrong but it sure is puzzling me
at the moment!!

Can anyone confirm a problem I seem to be having with the K3 Frequency
Memory Editor software?

If I try to set memory frequencies for transverters in the XVn memories
above 2.3GHz I get an error message, and if I set a memory directly on the
K3 and then read it back with the utility it shows up as a frequency that
has no obvious relationship to that set on the K3. This seems to be the case
for any band above 2.3GHz. A previous version of the utility worked OK on
2.3 and 3.4GHz but failed on 5.7GHz and above, and the error message with
that version makes me think its an overflow in a 32 bit integer variable
used to represent the frequency.

On the KX3 Yahoo group, in the files section, is an example file that you
may open with the K3 Frequency Memory Editor and then optionally edit
and/or download to the KX3. Of course, if you ahve a K3, you may already
have files you wish to use.

file??

Hi Everyone:

This should be a no brainer, but it seems that I am unable to save the three
entries that I have made into 00,01,02 slots in anything but an .XML file
type. I have been successful in getting the K3 to upload to the PC with the
3 locations contents so I know the load went there.

The saved .XML file comes up in a browser window( garbage)...I think that I
should be able to reopen a modified "Elecraft K3 Frequency Memory Editor"
with my entries.

The basic problem is saving and reopening the saved file. It just seems to
not work the way I think it should.

Can anyone shed light on this please? What am I misunderstanding?

This could be a powerful tool for me.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Frequency Memory Editor with Win98SE

2010-08-05 Thread Dick Dievendorff
Well, the .Net Framework is supposed to work on Windows 98 SE, so I can at
least give it a try, if the prerequisite software is installed and does the
job.

I'm still using Visual Studio 2005 (and not 2008 or 2010) for the Elecraft
utilities because the newer compilers generate EXEs that don't run on
Windows 98 SE or Windows ME.

I'm aware that at least some of our community migrates
older-but-working-fine systems into the radio shack...

But I can't ignore the development productivity I get from using a modern
runtime library, and I needed a grid control for this effort. The .Net
framework's grid control is adequate and is free for customers.

You might find that it is a challenging exercise to connect the iPad
to the RS-232 port of the K3.

There is a USB jack in the iPad "Camera Connection Kit," but since
serial ports are not USB Class compliant devices, you will need to be
able to install drivers (kernel extensions).

For now, the iPad would need to be jailbroken for you to install third
party drivers (assuming you can even find drivers for your USB serial
adapter for the iPad/ARM architecture to begin with).

A Bluetooth adapter at the K3 end is an easy solution, but not a cheap
one. The other is to WiFi from the iPad to a computer that is already
attached to the K3 (which is also a cross platform solution).

Other than those niggling details, multi-touch interfaces for a radio
is definitely better than mouse driven interfaces.

I doubt it. The driver would be the problem there. No iPad USB/Serial drivers

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Frequency Memory Editor with Win98SE

2010-08-05 Thread Dick Dievendorff
The K3 Frequency Memory Editor requires the Windows .Net framework (2.0).
It can be installed from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-
8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

The setup.exe and K3FreqMemoryEditor.msi files should be in the same
directory. Setup.exe looks for it there.

It appears that we currently require Windows Installer 3.1 or later. I'll
see if I can influence that. Windows Installer 3.1 is an Windows 2000 and
later product, Installer 2.0 is available for Windows 98 SE.

Can you try installing Windows Installer 2.0 from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=cebb
acd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f

I'll do some poking around to see if I can offer a Windows 98 SE version. I
hope it is possible.

Installation of the .zip version of the Freq Mem Editor failed on my Win98SE

double-clicked setup.exe as instructed.

Is there some special place where the .msi file should be placed? I believe
that I already have some .msi files here and there from other downloads.
I do not have "DotNet" installed, as I have never needed it.

The log file shows the following, ending in an error message that setup.exe

No plans for an iPad version.. yet. If I could find a serial adapter for the

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Frequency Memory Editor

2010-08-05 Thread Mike K2MK

Dick has done a terrific job. I had lots of irregularities in my settings.
When initially setting the memories I obviously took little note of what VFO
B was doing. I had strange VFO B frequencies and modes which always messed
me up when I went split. Dick's program provides that much needed visual
listing.

I also had inconsistencies in how I set up the band segment buttons and I
was able to clean up my scan ranges which were in a state of chaos.

Thanks, Dave. I'm hoping people will share their freq memory files. Most of

Thanks Dick! The XP version works great here! It provides an easy way to
backup all memories to a file. I can see the potential for all sorts of
applications. How about different memory files for different contests,
operating modes or locations?

Very nice addition. Now just waiting for my P3 to ship!
