I have done the benchmarks, the benchmarked applications are nautilus, thunderbird and scratch. By the way i didnt copy the second test from thunderbird as it gave me different number in only one execution, however it doesnt' seem affected by prelink, but if someone wants the thunderbird results please e-mail me. The benchmark is in a spreadsheet. Thank you for conducting such a comprehensive benchmark! According to these numbers, using prelink can cut linking time in half and possibly more for bloated apps, but that improves startup times by less than 0.01 second on the tested machine. For reference, on what machine were the measurements performed? Oh, and it would be great if you upload these benchmarks somewhere and get some prelink tutorials or wiki pages to link to them. I run the benchmark on my Asus A52J (which is almost the same as a K52JB). Okay, let's say we have 10x slower CPU and RAM, then we win 0.1 second of startup time, and that's a best-case situation on a really old machine. Given all the cons of prelink I've listed earlier in this thread, I think it's completely clear now that we're not going to use it. Thanks for mythbusting.
