[Em28xx] Problems with latest kernel

2007-09-07 Thread Dimitrios
Hey people, this is my first post, i hope i'm not asking something that has
already been answered.

I'm using Fedora 7 and a Pinnacle PCTV USB2 device. When i first got the
device, i was using kernel 2.6.21 and (to my amazement) the device worked
out-of-the-box the first time i plugged it in! I use tvtime as a TV viewer.

I recently run "yum update" which installed the latest 2.6.22 kernel and since
then my Pinnacle PCTV USB2 is broken. When tvtime starts, i can see the
'current' channel, but once i switch 1-2 channels then it dies and all i see is
grey static. Which can only be solved if i remove the device from the USB,
reboot the system (or rmmod/modprobe the em28xx driver) and start over again.
No matter what i do, i can only see the default channel the first time, once i
switch channels the driver breaks and all i get is static.

Please help!

interesting didn't know that this one is also broken so it seems like
the inkernel driver is now fully obsolete.

You might have a look at:

does anything strange show up if you type dmesg on the shell ofter
that happened?

My device (Pinnalce PCTV USB2 150e/55e) isn't DVB, just analog, it doesn't seem
to use a firmware as that page suggests, which seems to be related to a
different device (Hybrid Pro, etc).

Nope, nothing. The device & driver act as if nothing happened.

The driver on mcentral.de is for em28xx based devices in general, you
might give it a try first.

you need to compile it, the driver is still under development.

unfortunately, our systems here are all RPM based and have no compilers, thus i
can only install binary stuff (like a new kernel RPM, or a module that comes
precompiled in an RPM, like the NVIDIA driver).

do you know who made the driver in the 2.6.22 kernel? maybe i can submit a bug
report to the right person.
