Thanks Kyle. Noted.

I am muddling my way through

 [info:org#Creating timestamps]
 [info:org#The date/time prompt]

and see that org-evaluate-time-range does nothing for

<2019-01-04 Fri 11:00-12:15>

which was created using the “11am+2:15” style from

— quote
   You can specify a time range by giving start and end times or by
giving a start time and a duration (in HH:MM format). Use one or two
dash(es) as the separator in the former case and use ’+’ as the
separator in the latter case, e.g.:

 11am-1:15pm⇒ 11:00-13:15
 11am--1:15pm   ⇒ same as above
 11am+2:15  ⇒ same as above

   Parallel to the minibuffer prompt, a calendar is popped up(2). When
you exit the date prompt,
— quote ends

exporting that to ASCII in a buffer transforms the time range to

<2019-01-04 Fri 11:00>–<2019-01-04 Fri 12:15>

Now, that formatting put back in the Org buffer does work for
org-evaluate-time-range, as follows:

<2019-01-04 Fri 12:34>-<2019-01-04 Fri 12:35> 00:01

The official-looking site sends you to SourceForge. Git and Svn repo functions
are available there.

At the time, the git part of it was empty. Building the 131K jar required the
JDK on top the JRE, and, an IDE on top of that to press the Play button to
build.

Perhaps, org-mode can lean in toward extensions that are Free/Open/C/ELisp
where possible. In this case, for a little bit of the GIMP to convert ASCII art
to SVG or GIF image. The GIMP’s Script-Fu is a kind of Lisp.

A data point.

Ditaa requires a JRE as mentioned at

The litigious terms are

  ditaa version 0.9, Copyright (C) 2004--2009 Efstathios (Stathis) Sideris

I didn’t find ditaa.jar in org-mode’s contrib/scripts as claimed.

[O] 26.1, 9.1.9; startup:overview, smerge-ediff frame unusable, unremovable

2018-10-16 Thread Van L
Hello,

I found myself in a situation to
smerge-ediff with three windows
split inside a frame.

There was another tiny frame with
a question mark which I didn’t do
anything to. Maybe I had to.

I had tried to git merge and there
were conflicts needing attention.

Looking at the file in smerge-mode
and then calling smerge-ediff
produced my Org-Mode buffer
collapsed to

#+STARTUP: overview

in all three windows. There was
nothing I could do to expand the
headlines. Then abandoning that,
I found the frame itself wasn’t
willing to be dismissed by C-x 5 0.

I had to quit the entire emacs.

Thanks in advance.

This is a real pain point for me, too.

I don’t want actions in one window straying unintentionally into the other
window.

Use case: I have a two window split. In one window I read a webpage and don’t
want to ever lose the view to. The other window is for Org Mode note taking. I
do the "example" begin/end thing and on C-c ' on the
example-block the other window I never want to lose the view to is lost
temporarily!

I took a look at images of Freeplane XML and it is boring.

What I’d like to do is tile triangles (and the normal) as clusters and/or
scatters on meaningful planes of data/concepts which see a landscape having
moving parts in Disney’s Tron Hollywood movie but less dark. And, like in the
map apps for navigating by in the smartphone you can tilt to adjust the angle
to horizon for 3D effect.

How about Pixar’s USD (Universal Scene Description) information exchange format?

I use the markup to help read language with differing variations in sounds,
graphs and meaning.

The following is an example. Now I always enclose sup/subscripts with the curly
braces to lessen the chances of WYSIWYG dropping out. And, in that case, I
would need to edit the textual markup. Sometimes the markup mechanism won’t let

Hello.

Is it possible to edit a buffer in org mode

At the indirect-buffer, I switch to fundamental mode and
that causes the base buffer in org mode to
lose the pretty printing for superscript, subscript.

The two mode lines are set: org mode and fundamental mode.

I drop into fundamental mode to adjust the curly braces for

To be better, I’d like to set the local directory where emacs opens all the

The current setting opens everything unknown to emacs in emacs.

There is a hidden file method to have emacs open files according to the mode

But the link mechanism doesn’t read that.

It is working now since I was advised to look there and I made the above change.

I am now able to link file to file and stay within Emacs for a directory having
only files in Org Mode but without the .org filename extension.

[O] C++ is not accepted for SRC block evaluation

2018-05-26 Thread Van L
Hello.

The `m-x customize’ path to `org-babel-load-languages’ or the following method
won’t accept C++.

#+BEGIN_SRC elisp :results none
  (org-babel-do-load-languages
   'org-babel-load-languages
   '((C++ . t)))
#+END_SRC

The messages buffer has the following.

I get a reproduction of your error outside of Emacs and Org Mode.

Adapting an example from the list’s archive, the following works.

#+BEGIN_SRC elisp :results none
  (org-babel-do-load-languages
   'org-babel-load-languages
   '((python . t)))
#+END_SRC

#+BEGIN_SRC python :results output
  a = 5
  b = 16
  print(a + b)

#+END_SRC

[O] , C-c ', on SRC block in two window vertical split screen goes horizontal unexpectedly

2018-05-25 Thread Van L
Hello.

I have two windows separated by a vertical split. Left and right.

On the right window, I have an elisp SRC block. I want to go in and edit it
after ,C-c ‘, and expect the left window to narrow in.

What happens next is the vertical split disappears, unexpectedly, and a
horizontal split re-arranges the windows up and down.

I expect the vertical split to remain, unchanged, and for the narrowing in to
focus on the left window in the original orientation, left and right.

I am on mac os using emacs-26.1-rc1.

I chose `Default for unrecognized files’, `Visit with Emacs’;
but `Default for files in directory’ or use of the hidden file in the directory
for setting the mode would be better.

Thanks.

[O] SRC block with `-i' switch seems to solve the problem (was: comment alignment not lining up / C++//l OrgSrc Abbrev / Releasing Emacs 26.1)

2018-05-21 Thread Van L
Hello Eli.

Thanks for solving the problem with chinese input method’s link reference which
was broken due to an 18yo typo.

Separately, the following is a different bug.

I reported this bug which didn’t get acknowledged as far as I can tell.

I think the bug isn’t a bug now.

It isn’t a bug if instead of using EXAMPLE block I use SRC block with the `-i’
switch and the indenting will be preserved properly.

Perhaps the Org Mode documentation about the `-i’ switch for SRC block can
demonstrate an example, for Python especially, to get the point across about
preserving indentation and reduce the chance of misunderstanding or missing the
point.

[O] comment alignment not lining up / C++//l OrgSrc Abbrev / Releasing Emacs 26.1

2018-05-21 Thread Van L
Hello.

Here is a recipe reproducing a bug described in the post which is forward from.

— recipe begins

   - to reproduce faulty comment line up

 1) ~/2018/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs -Q

 2) open file ~/Documents/x-reproduce-me

(Fundamental) mode is on

 3) C-h C-a ; verify version is 26.1 rc-1

 4) enter the following into the file, place cursor at end of 43, save
file, M-x revert-buffer

#+BEGIN_EXAMPLE
* Reading

Chapters

1)
2) Page 43

Local variables:
mode: org
paragraph-separate: "[  ]*$"
coding: utf-8
end:

#+END_EXAMPLE

(Org) mode is on ; show all ; place cursor at end of 43 ; type `M-j' ;
`http://emacs.scratch.space/public/org-mode-cpp-x-0.png

 5) Abbrev view opens in second pane

type in the following

#+BEGIN_EXAMPLE
void some_function() // function that doesn't return a value
{
  double d = 2.2; // initialize floating-point number
  int i = 7; // initialize integer
  d = d+i; // assign sum to d
  i = d*i; // assign product i (truncating the double to an int)
}
// To align, highlight the region then
// M-x align-regexp  //
#+END_EXAMPLE

highlight the region of four lines in the body of the function

do, M-x align-regexp  //

- the four line's comment are lined up

do, C-c '

 6) we are out of the abbrev view

- the line with `int i = 7;' has comment alignment not lining up

- see - http://emacs.scratch.space/public/org-mode-cpp-x-1.png

highlight the region of four lines in the body of the function

do, M-x align-regexp  //

- the four line's comment are lined up

- see - http://emacs.scratch.space/public/org-mode-cpp-x-2.png

do, C-c '

 7) we are in the abbrev view

- again, the line with `int i = 7;' has comment alignment not lining up

- see - http://emacs.scratch.space/public/org-mode-cpp-x-3.png

— recipe ends

[O] link handling for `file:' fails to stay within Emacs but calls `open file:' with TextEdit

2018-05-21 Thread Van L
Hello.

The link handling for org mode behaves unexpectedly where a file sets
org mode according to `Local variables:' at the end of the file.

In the following, a.org and b.org files work as expected using M-x
org-store-link and M-x org-insert-link for `file:' link.

Without the .org filename extension, following the link calls

  `open file:' which leads to Org Mode opening the file with TextEdit

under mac os, Emacs 26.1 rc-1.

;; running  : Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs -Q
;; problem : This two file arrangment for `Emacs -Q' *fails* to follow the
link.
;; expect : Emacs to open a link to org file.
;; unexpected : Emacs calls TextEdit to open org file.
;; solution : if file a and b are called a.org and b.org then there is no
problem.

;; Solution needs org files named without the `.org’ extension
;; to follow `file:’ links without leaving Emacs.

;; file : a
