[O] creating lists - auto create next item

2014-07-09 Thread sergio_101
Hi, all.

I am coming back to org-mode after several years away from emacs, and
getting my .emacs updated to everything that happened while i was gone.

Anyway, when writing a list with org mode, in the past, i would do
something like:

- item 1
- start here

when i entered item 1, i would immediately be taken down to the next line,
with the preceeding - inserted.

for some reason, this is not working..

currently:

osx
GNU Emacs 24.3.1 (x86_64-apple-darwin13.2.0, NS apple-appkit-1265.20) of
2014-07-01
Org-mode version 8.2.7b (8.2.7b-1-ga5beff-elpa @
/Users/sergio/emacs_d/.cask/24.3.1/elpa/org-20140707/)

thanks!

[Orgmode] latex export: forcing a page break

2010-12-02 Thread sergio_101
i would like to use org-mode as a makeshift cook book.

i get asked for recipes all the time. i figure if i keep a cookbook
updated all the time, i can just forward people a pdf file that has
everything in it and is updated all the time..

my only hitch..

i would like once recipe per page.

how can i force a page break? ideas? thanks!

Type 'm' in front of each and then B s to a new date.  If you want to
move them all forward one week to the same day, I think you'll have to
 write some elisp.

hmm...

for some reason, i thought i had it set up before to just
automagically pull tasks over to the next week.. unfortunately, i just
can't remember at all.. hmm...

[Orgmode] quick TODO entry

2010-11-03 Thread sergio_101
i have been away from org-mode and i have come back to it recently.
when i was using it before, i seem to remember having a keystroke
combo that allowed me to start up a TODO item, and then it would
quickly shift to deadline entry, then tag entry.

i can't find anything on this, nor can i remember what it was..

any ideas?

thanks!

[Orgmode] getting rid of old org-mode files..

2009-06-24 Thread sergio_101
i think my problem with exporting my latex files is that there may be
pieces of the old org-mode laying around..

i am currently on:
osx: 10.5.7
carbon emacs: GNU Emacs 22.3.1 (i386-apple-darwin9.6.0, Carbon Version
1.6.0)

org-mode: 6.27a

upon install on carbon emacs, i had the following org-mode installed:

5.23a

i did a make on the new version of org mode.. and everything seemed to
be okay.. BUT..

i couldn't find where the old org-mode was installed, so i couldn't
find it to delete all the parts..

another point of interest is that if i run emacs from the command
line, i get the following:

Org-mode version 4.67c

so there might be parts installed somewhere else, too..

anyone have any ideas where else to look?

thanks!

[Orgmode] troubles exporting latex..

2009-06-23 Thread sergio_101

i have just updated to a new machine, and i am having a new problem
exporting to latex..

i am currently on:

carbon emacs: GNU Emacs 22.3.1 (i386-apple-darwin9.6.0, Carbon Version

org-mode: 6.27a

this emacs came with a version 5.23a(i think that's what it was)
installed. but i can't seem to find where it was..

when i try to export to latex, i get the following:

Exporting to LaTeX...
org-export-latex-first-lines: Symbol's function definition is void:
org-cleaned-string-for-export

Symbol's function definition is void: org-cleaned-string-for-export

i saw a message from carsten earlier that said:

this must mean that you are using an outdated version of org-export-
latex.el with a new version of org-exp.el. You need to make sure
that your complete installation is up to date.

but i am not sure where else to check on this.

any help would be appreciated..

thanks!

Just to add one additional (quite useless data point).. I tried the
example file and it did seem to hang with Emacs consuming lots of CPU.

okay, i knew i was going to miss something...

html export works just fine..

but i never do get a fail.. the processor usage shoots to 100%.. and
hangs there... i let it go for a few hours.. then quit it.

the error message i sent was from after cancelling in the middle of the
export..

well, not that ugly, but you get the idea..

[Orgmode] export to latex..

2009-01-07 Thread sergio_101
i have been running orgmode for awhile now, and using it to export my

when i do a C-c C-e and select 'l' to export to latex, i get the following:

Sorting environment...
Removing duplicates... done
Applying style hooks... done

and then it just hangs..

i have tried checking *messages* for some clues, but that is all it says..

anyone have any ideas where i might look to fix this?

os: osx 10.5
GNU Emacs 22.3.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin9.3.0, Carbon Version 1.6.0)
org-mode: Org-mode version 6.17c

i have done the following:

removed old version (6.12-ish) of org-mode..

edited Makefile to read:

EMACS=/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs

did a make on the new code..

after doing this, i am still having trouble exporting to latex..

when i exported several simple files, i get:

(New file)
Loading tex...done
Loading latex...done
Loading font-latex...
Loading bytecomp...done
Loading font-latex...done
Applying style hooks... done
Sorting environment...
Removing duplicates... done
Loading tex-bar...done
Loading preview...
Loading byte-opt...done
Loading preview...done
Applying style hooks... done
Loading tabify...done

at that point, emacs just hangs..

when i do an activity monitor, i see that emacs is pegging the cpu..
but even when i let it sit for an hour or so, no dice..

the catch is... it worked previously, and i have not added anything new..

any help would be appreciated..

thanks!
