Andy, I tried to send your a copy 2k copy of align.zip and a 100k 
screenshot of how it looks, but some A.H. M$ server claimed it was 
black-listed and would not be delivered.

Sometimes the net sucks.

I've had the package installed o my mills since forever, the package 
contains zero information as to the author or is src. I do recall 
getting it from a link om our wiki, probably 5 years ago, but I've no 
clue if the wiki still links to it.
The package is a slightly more than 2kilobyte .zip, and contains 7 files, 
all ready to run:

align-start.ngc which records the first position of a 2 position 
measurement. where ever the machine is when the gui button is clicked.

align-x.ngc which assumes the 2nd point you've located and clicked on its 
button, someplace generally along the x axis, gets the 2nd point you 
want to use, calculates how far out of a straight line along the x axis 
the 2 points are, and applies an R correction to the P0 co-ordinate map.

align-y.ngc which does the same thing assuming your 2 points are a 
roughly along the y axis

align.ini, is a list of HALUI commends to add to the [HALUI] section of 
your .ini file.

align.xml, which is 4 paragraphs of xml code you add to your pyvcp.xml 
file, it draws the 4 buttons in the gui.

clear-offset.ngc, which clears out any rotations the above might have 
done.

post-gui.hal, which "net"s it all together for hal.

And that is all I know about it as the zip does not contain a README.txt 
to ack who the author might be, no license specs or anything else. The 
files do have comments as to what each does, but that is it.

I have tested it to about 45 degrees in both directions and it just 
works.

Its handy as can be IMO, but I didn't write it nor am I going to steal 
someone else thunder, it is what it is, and if the author see's this 
post and pops up claiming its his, at least that question, and the 
applicable license might be answered.  That would be a definite plus. 
Until then its PD AFAIAC. I did a fresh search on the wiki, got 24 hits 
just now, but none of the pages actually pointed to the file.

Get a copy of the .zip by going to the page in the sig, 
adding "Mill-stf/gcode-etc/" to the address bar which if you aren't 
coming from the same /24 as a known bot, should show it to you. If its a 
no response, email me with your outside ipv4 address and I'll clear it 
out of my iptables rules.

How do you think they should be included in LinuxCNC? As sample ngc
files? Sample configs?

I'd put it in nc_files/examples. Along with a readme.txt giving John 
Thornton author credit and paste my summary into it. Stuff like this 
should not get lost in the drifting sands of time.
