US Territories
Hi again, This may be a bit off the mark for this forum, but can anyone point to where an up-to-date list of US Territories and possessions can be found. This question came up when dealing with US export licenses. We've made many calls to various US goverment offices, but without success (not 1 office knows of such a list). If I were to conclude this search now, I would have say that there appears to be no such list. But, if there is such a list, it would be very much appreciated if those who know would respond with either "the" list or a place where the list would be found. I'll be anxiously awaiting any responses. Best regards, Ron Pickard r...@syntellect.com
EMC - Israel
Can anyone help me out with some information on Israel's EMC requirements for IT equipment please? What is their Standard? How does it relate to EN55022 / CISPR 22? If they use Class A and Class B, how are the classes defined? Thank you. Required power shut off in unoccupied buildings in EU
Greetings, Brief Background: The printing equipment we build runs best when the main power is left on 24 hours a day. This is because when not in use our printers run purging cycles every two hours and a lengthy cleaning cycle once over night every night. Question: At our company there have been various rumors and myths circulating over the years that, especially in certain European countries, certain utilities, municipalities, or countries require by law that all power be shut off when a commercial building is unoccupied. This would be most likely to happen over weekends or over holidays. Can anyone in this group confirm or deny this and, if true, how pervasive it is. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Re: Proposed changes to UL 1950 3rd Edition
As a founding member of the bi-national committee, I have objected to ANY and ALL deviations from IEC-950 in the BiNet. Obviously, not very succesfully. I believe that if I still were a member of that illustrious group, I would object to there being a national committee in any country that thinks up deviations to IEC 950. The job of national committees ought to be the preparation of inputs into TC74, and inside, the removal of existing deviations in the national code (and fix the CEC and NAC, while at it). The notion that a good citizen in Preoria Ill needs to go to Geneva to change the national requirements, does not sit very well with many. However, that is the only way we're going to bring sanity to this global market place. There will be a good deal of pain in that procedure, but the only pragmatic way to deal with the problem is to go through the pain. In the mean time, if you have a customer who only buys equipment with gold-plated bases, you will do the plating, if he has the money. Happy not to contribute to any controversy. Vic
Re: Proposed changes to UL 1950 3rd Edition
The problem is not marketing worldwide. The problem is marketing in the US since the Bi-national workgroup wants a deviation from the IEC-950 standard. IEC-950 allows TNV circuits that go up to 120 VDC, whereas UL 1950 3rd edition and the proposed revision only allow up to 60 VDC. Also, the voltages are creeping up not going down in telecommunications equipment. So I strongly disagree that this problem will dry up and go away. Jim -- From: Victor L. We no longer design ICT equipment for anyone geographic location on the globe. The equipment has to be "GLOBALLY" IEC-950 compliant. Most of the equipment you mention does not have a product life that exceeds three years. By that time, newer technology equipment takes over. Hence, there should not be any problem having compliant equipment available and in place by the time UL1950/CSA950 kick in and you should be able to peddle such equipment world-wide.
