EMC -earthmoving equip

1999-01-12 Thread Bruce Fagley
Hello group:

There is a draft ISO standard, ISO/DIS 13766, generated in 1996 that covers
EMC for earthmoving equipment. I am trying to find out the status of this
standard so I can determine if it is appropriate to use for testing EMC on
large Earthmoving equipment. I have a copy of the standard and it appears
to be based on the automotive EMC test requirements as opposed to the type
of tests one would find in the Generic standards.

Any information or experience regarding this standard or the committe that
generated it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: FCC exemptions

1999-01-12 Thread ron_pickard
 Hi Moshe,

You are almost correct. 15.103(c) actually states "A digital device used
exclusively as industrial, commercial, or medical TEST (my emphasis)
equipment." I would take this as meaning that all test equipment used in these
specific environments are exempt from FCC Part 15 compliance.

As I understand it, Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) devices are
covered by FCC Part 18, not Part 15. Although, I'm not sure if ISM test
equipment falls in here, as well. Anyway, it would seem that your "industrial
product" should comply with Part 18, not Part 15. Anyone out there with more
experience in this area than I want to comment further?

Just an extra 2 cents I wanted to throw into the bucket.

 Best regards,
 Ron Pickard

Hello everyone,

47CFR part 15 (15.103 item C) states that "A digital device used exclusively as
dustrial,
commercial, or medical equipment" is "exempt from the specific technical standar
".

1. Can someone give a rational explanation to this exemption?

2. I have an industrial product which automatically inspects PCB panels for defe
s. Is this
product exempt from class A limitations?
In what way is such a product different in emissions from a "non-test" product s
h as a
scanner.

3. If I take advantage of this exemption, where can I expect trouble (if any)?

thanks in advance,

Human Exposure to EMF

1999-01-12 Thread WOODS, RICHARD
The USA has no official limits for human exposure to low frequency (<3 kHz)
EMF. However, I found it interesting to learn that when investigating the
workplace, OSHA has the authority to invoke the voluntary ACGIH guidelines
for EMF exposure and has been known to do so. Now, I have to wonder what
would happen in Europe. I am aware of only three EMF exposure documents that
might be used: VDE 0848 (Germany), NRPB guidelines (UK), and the new
international ICNIRP guidelines. My question to the group is, what EMF
exposure guidelines do the occupational health authorities in the European
states invoke if they believe an EMF exposure situation exists in the
workplace?

Re: Brazilian Standards

1999-01-12 Thread Muriel Bittencourt de Liz
Geoff,

There is a standard, NBR12304, which is based on CISPR 22. But the
standard isn't mandatory, it's only a recommendation.

Best Regards

Muriel
