Immunity Requirements for Australia

1999-09-14 Thread Charles Martin

 Hi everyone,

Dose anyone know what the Immunity requirements for Australia are? We
are using EN 61326, for ISM equipment, for Europe. We know about the
requirements for Emissions, AS /NZS 2064:1997 and that they are the
 same as EN 55011.

 Thank you in advance
 Charlie Martin

Re: EMC and Safety Requirements for Mexico

1999-09-14 Thread Peter Merguerian

Carlos,

You will probably need NOM Approval which will require testing in
Mexico and a license granted to your distributor. The test fee is
very cheap but it is worth the investment to use the services of UL
who have a presence in Mexico. Complete documentation and
warning markings on equipment must be in Spanish. It helps to
have your CE technical file.

Lastly, I had a laugh when the test lab (by the way there are
various accredited test labs in Mexico, such as NYCE) asked that
the Ampere rating on a submitted sample had to be changed from
6.3 A to 6,3 A (ie with a comma) or the two ratings (one with dot
and the other with comma) put together.

Hope this helps.

RE: Ground Bond Testers

1999-09-14 Thread Crane, Lauren

Brian,

Be sure you are not imposing tests on yourself that are not required.
You may protect against accessible parts becoming live under single fault in
one of three ways.
Try looking at your product as if you are using double insulation (6.5.2)
rather than protective bonding. If you can meet the requirements for 6.5.2
then having grounded enclosure panels and the like is just icing on the
cake, and not a compliance point you have to test.

Re: Ground Bond Testers - Continued

1999-09-14 Thread Matthew Meehan

Brian,

Try this loophole on for size.

Depending upon the installation location - it may be necessary (required by
law) to perform an earth bond test after installation of the equipment. In
such a case, testing at your production site would not guarantee a higher
level of safety. After all, the reason for making routine earth bond tests
is to confirm proper assembly.

I have seen production testing waived by a certifier under these conditions
(not a high volume product - known installation locations - report of site
testing kept for records).

Example:
You ship your equipment in sections and then assemble (or provide
instructions to assemble) the equipment on site. After assembly the earth
bond test is performed. Your customer should have access to the necessary
equipment if testing is required.

Good luck,
Matt
